Phone has asked me "Which device should have responded?" a million times

My phone has asked me this about a million times. I have several Nest devices at home, and whenever my phone is nearby when I give an OK Google Command (usually to control smart lights) my Android phone asks me "Which device should have responded?".  I've answered a million times  but that seems to do no good, it seems like it's going to keep asking forever.  Incidentally I never answer I wanted the phone to respond, because I never do when a Nest device is nearby; I always tell it I want the Nest device to respond.

Is there any way to get it to learn from my responses? (Once upon a time I disabled my phone's Assistant for this reason, but I don't want to do that because I like to use my phone's Assistant when I'm not home.)

Hi there!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that the Google Assistant may have caused you. I understand that whenever you try to control your Nest devices using your speakers and your phone is near them, it detects the command and is sending you that prompt that you attached. I also understand that you want to keep using the Google Assistant on your phone; then turning it off is not an option. But no worries, I will help you find a solution to this situation, so here I send you some steps to set Google Assistant’s “Hey Google” sensitivity to your phone.

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • At the bottom, tap Home.
  • Touch and hold your speaker or smart display.
  • At the top right, tap Device settings, then go to Audio and finally hit on “Hey Google” sensitivity.
  • Choose how sensitive you want Google Assistant to be when it responds to you on your phone; you can put it lower than normal.
    • To change this setting on another device, tap Adjust more devices.

Please check the following article for further information: Adjust how sensitive Google Assistant is to “Hey Google”.

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.

Thank you very much for your reply, Daniel!

I know how to do that (and have already done so) in the Google Home app for my smart home devices, but my phone isn't one of the devices in that app. Is there some way I'm not aware of to make my phone one of the devices in its own Google Home app?

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply.
I understand that you have already followed the steps that I sent you before, but you are still having the same behavior on your devices. You can try to create a routine in Google Home to activate the Do Not Disturb mode on your phone when you arrive home. Be sure to configure Do Not Disturbe to allow important calls and alarms but block Google Assistant notifications. You can follow the next steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Automations, then go to Add, and finally select Personal.
  3. To name your routine, tap Untitled.
    • If you add a voice starter before you name your routine, the voice starter becomes the name.
  4. Add the starters and actions you want. Note: If your routine is set to start automatically and includes actions with audio, specify the device you want the audio to play on. At the bottom, tap Device for audio, select a device, and tap Save.
  5. Tap Save.

You can check the next article for further information: Create and manage routines for Google Home automations.

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,
Daniel.

Sorry but no I don't think you do understand. I couldn't perform your previous advice and can't perform this advice because as I said my phone is not one of the devices in its own Google Home app. Unless, as I said, you know some way to get it in there that I don't.

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply.
I’m sorry to hear that you are still having the same behavior with the Google Assistant on your phone even after trying all the steps that I previously mentioned. In order to be able to adjust the Google Assistant’s sensitivity, here I send you the feedback form where you can put your suggestions, and we are going to work on that.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to answer.

Regards,
Daniel.
