“Play Music” Command

Jolynne1980

My Google Home is linked to my Apple Music account. It has all been linked for nearly 2 years, working without any issues. However, I just recently encountered an issue with the “hey Google, play music” command. all devices reply with “playing on Apple Music”….but nothing will play. I can say “hey Google [and ask for a specific song or playlist]” and it will play without issue. It’s just the generic “play music” command and it’s happening on every google device in my Google Home.

I have reset everything. Even factory resets of each device. I have linked and unlinked Apple Music. I have spent HOURS troubleshooting the issue without success. I have called Google support and Apple support. Google told me it’s an Apple issue, and Apple says it’s a Google issue 😩 No answers. Please help! 🙏

Hello Jolynne1980,

Thanks for posting here in the Community. I'm sorry for this experience.

A few questions: when did the issue start? Is this happening to other music providers? What's the Cast firmware version of your device?

Looking forward to your response.

Best,
Lovely

Hello!

This just started a couple weeks ago.

Apple is the only music provider I have.

chromecast firmware version on my main display is 1.68.353511 not sure how to get that information from the speakers themselves.

Thanks!

Hey Jolynne1980,

Please try to power cycle your entire network by unplugging your Wi-Fi router and Google Home and Nest devices for three minutes before plugging them back in.

Let me know if this helps.

Cheers,
Lovely

I tried this already, and unfortunately it did not work😬

Hi Jolynne1980,

Go ahead and create a test Home in the Google Home app. Factory reset one of your Google Home and Nest devices and set it up there. Kindly inform me if the same thing happened.

Thanks,
Lovely

Yes Dan. Still having problems. Not sure what the issue could be. It appears all other commands work just fine. I’m at a total loss.

Hey there Jolynne1980,

Apologies for the delayed response. Have a go using the command “Hey, Google! Play music on Apple Music” and see what happens. To listen to Apple Music on a speaker or display, you must link your Google account with their Apple Music account

Note: An Apple Music subscription is required to play music with Google Nest and Home devices.

Also, kindly check the status of your subscription to isolate further.

Kind regards,

Dan
