Playing different music/songs on different google speakers from same spotify account.

Hi, we currently have two google nest minis, and one google nest. They are all in different rooms. We also have a premium spotify account, which was an indiviudal account, but we've increase that to a duel account (to try and resolve this issue), unsure if a family account will resolve the issue.

The issue is that we cant play different music on each speaker. We have set voice controls for my wife and me, which means it will allow us to play different music on two speakers, but whenever one of our children try and play a song, it wont allow them both to play different songs on the google nest (they both have one in their bedrooms). Neither of them has a phone to put the app on to set their own voice controls.

We had thought it was an issue with the spotify account, do we have to have the family account which will mean we can then play on more than two speakers, or is the issue that it thinks anyone who hasnt had their voice recognised is the account holder so defaults back to saying they cant use multiple devices.

Any help or advice appreciated.

You are going to need a Family account. Everyone in the Family will need to have thier own Spotify account connected to the family account. Spotify kids will not work. To get more in depth instructions for setting this up, I would strongly suggest you ask this question in a diffrent community such as /r/googlehome over at reddit.

Hi @DanEggen see my response to this post. If you have questions or need assistance come on back and I'll help you out. You didn't mention kid's ages, so I won't assume -- the issue is playing music to different speakers, by people in different rooms, correct?

Hi, thanks for that. I think the issues with the kids using it, is that they don't have their own spotify/google accounts as yet, so cant set that up separately. Also cant set their voice up to be recognised differently.

We can get a spotify family account though and see if that resolves being allowed different music in different rooms.

It could be, but there are limitations to child accounts, I don't use Spotify, but I do use Google Play Music and now YouTubeMusic.

They all work the same and are structured to protect the intellectual property rights of artists so as to prevent the theft of content. In the case of minor children, it's designed to avoid content that parents might not want their children to listen to that might be inappropriate. It also prevents service providers (Google, Spotify, et al.) from marketing and data collection of kids ages 13 and below, something required under federal law.

That all said, for context, see what you can arrange with your Spotify account and see how that works for you. But at least you'll have an understanding of why it's setup the way that it is.
