Podcasts playing in reverse order

Lindah365
Community Member

Starting a few weeks ago, podcasts are playing in reverse order. If I tell it to play a certain podcast, it plays the current episode and the automatically plays the previous one, then the one before it, etc. also, if I tell it to resume a podcast I haven’t listened to in awhile, it will start where I left off and then play older podcasts instead of playing the more recent episodes.

Hi Lindah365,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Could you please tell us what are the titles of the podcast that you are currently listening? Also, does it happen on all of the titles? Let's try the commands listed here: https://goo.gle/41F2Z4s

Let me know if these commands work.

Best,

Princess

Hi Lindah365,

Just one quick final follow up since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let me know.

Best,

Princess

I have been and continue to use the commands you suggest but am still having the problem. It happens with every podcast I listen to. E.g. Currently Reading. I say “play the most recent episode of Currently Reading”, it plays the most recent episode and then it automatically plays the episode before it, and then the one before that, etc.

Same is happening to me.  I was unsure if it’s going in reverse or playing older episodes at random.  Either way it does not move forward to the next episode like it used to.

I’m sorry this is happening to you too. It’s been crickets from google since I posted a reply to their follow up questions.

This isn’t the first time.  A year or 2 ago there was a bug that prevented it from knowing where you left off.  The fix was clearing data and resetting some stuff.  I can’t remember details.

Anyways not sure if posting here will even get results.  I think this forum is more for user error type stuff.

Hey folks,

We appreciate all the information. To confirm, is this isolated to specific podcasts only? Do you experience the same issue when using the Google Assistant app on your phone?

@Lindah365: Please fill out this form with all the needed information. This form is only meant for you to use, so let me know once you’re done.

Cheers,

It is with all podcasts. I don’t listen to podcasts on my phone.

Confirming @Lindah365 's comment that this happens on all podcasts. Adding that the google podcasts app itself does not appear to be impacted and neither does casting from the podcasts app.

Same issue on my end

Same issue here. As far as I can tell there's no way to get it to correctly move to the more recent episode like it used to and instead goes backwards even if you've already listened to the older episodes. These things just keep getting worse.

I have also had this issue.  I like to catch up on podcasts by listening in chronological order.  Interestingly the commands "Next Podcast" and "Previous  Podcast" both play the previous episode.  It's been happening for a couple of months now.

Same here. The Mike Omeara Show Podcast.

Actually, in the Home App, when I press next track arrow it goes to previous track but when I press previous arrow it goes to next!  Doesn’t happen in Google podcast app.

I'm also having this problem. Only started a couple of months ago. All podcasts, not a specific one. Only happens on my Google home devices. Didn't happen when using the Google podcast app.
