RADIO ALARMS NO LONGER WORK

Thksnow
Community Member

I have a Nest Hub which I have set up as a bedroom alarm clock with alarms which play one of my local FM radio stations. It has worked fine for months playing the local FM radio station via TuneIn. A few months ago the alarms started playing one of the standard alarm sounds as opposed to the radio station. I factory reset the hub and put in new alarms for the radio station and now it plays the radio station at the alarm time (see picture) but when you hit snooze or cancel it just keeps playing the radio station. You can verbally tell it to stop playing and it will, but if you pressed snooze originally it will come back on 10 mins later. Has anyone else seen this problem and does anyone know how to solve it?  I've sent in data under a previous post, but after lots of back and forth with some Google folks they have now gone silent and have not produced a fix.  Come on Google!!!!

Hey folks,

Sorry for the delays. Seems like we've been seeing quite an increase in reports around this issue and thanks for sharing your feedback on this thread. The team would love your help to look into this issue further. In order for the team to explore further, we need to gather additional feedback from affected customers.

You can send feedback from your Google Home/Nest device by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback." While you're sharing your feedback, it's important to use the keywords, "Radio Alarms not working". For more instructions on how to send feedback, check this out.

Also, please provide the following information below as this will help us further investigate the issue:

  • When did the issue start?
  • What country are you located in?
  • What Google Home/Nest device do you have?
  • What is the current firmware version?
  • Is it happening to a specific station/radio provider?

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Jake,

Everything I have tried is further up this thread.  It does not seem to be possible to set an alarm to play a particular song on the nest hub display.  It doesnt seem like this feature is going to be available as it has been available on the nest mini speaker for a long time but the exact same commands do not work on the display.  I don’t believe this is a problem with my configuration or display, I believe this feature is just not available.

thanks

Agreed, nothing seems to work to get this alarm to play an online radio station. Tried everything and when it is set it only plays the standard melodies/sounds for the standard alarm.

LOL! No fix, hence closing thread!  WTF!!!

I could really use some help. Unreliable radio alarm is a true disaster.

Same problem here! I have bought this devis for my bedroom morning radio alarm and its not working. Unfortunatly, I will have to return this google nest hub 2! Very disapointing!

Hey guys.  I too am having an issue with the radio alarm (under a different thread).

However, if all you want is for your hub to play a particular song at a certain time, I recommend using a Routine instead.

I had my radio alarm set for 7:30 on the hub in my bedroom and a routine set to play Davide Bowie/Hunky Dory (the album) at 9:00 on the hub in my office.

Failed after a short while. Snooze doesn't work.

Same problem. Radio alarm works for a while then switches to arm tone. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

Hammmer

Still having the issue - nothing seems to fix it.

All I want is for the radio app to play a Digital Radio station for an alarm at 7:30 weekdays and 9:00 weekends.

Both used to work but now all I get is the default alarm tones.

I purchased the hubs as a replacement for a radio/alarm in the first place.

Worked fine for a few years and now it does not work on a Gen 1 or Gen 2 device.

Language is set to US (although I live is AUS.)

Still a problem - nothing resolved yet.

Have "sent feedback" from the device several times.

Any updates yet from google >?

Yes! nothing resolved yet.

I got no update from Google !!

Extremely disapointing that the media alarm don't work !!!

and, this morning, the routine I have set to play a classic rock radio station, which used to work, started playing "annoying synth mix" on spotify.

What's going on Google - it starting to remind me of the early versions of Android where nothing worked properly and it was always having issues but never the same thing.

Same issue here. I set the media alarm on the nest display, get a confirmation that's going to play the song I want and then it just rings the regular alarm tone. I use youtube music and my default music player. I have yet to try with other players but this seems to be an issue with the device itself.

Hi Lz1,

I know how it feels if something is not going your way. Was it working before? If so, when did this concern start for you? It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first to refresh the connection between devices. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest Hub. Plug them back in starting with your router. Restarting your phone might also help. To isolate further, try other music service and tell me how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan,

It's been going on for a very long time and it's a bad look for 'google' to had this off to someone new and then ask all the same questions that have been answered 3 or 4 times by each person.

It's the same problem, a lot of us are having the problem, Google are doing nothing about it and I have purchased my first Amazon dot to see if I want to go 'All In' with Alexa and dump all my google products !

I have rebooted routers, switches, NTDs. reset hub after hub after hub - it does not fix the issue.

The issue impacts Gen 1 & Gen2 hubs.
Tell the hub to play a DAB radio station - it plays.

Set an alarm with this exact same radio station and you get the default beep, beep, beep alarm.

Hey there,

We’ve duplicated your thread to the main one here. You’ll receive all updates on this issue on the main thread and we recommend updating and checking this thread when needed.

Google Nest is so bad that I went out and bought the Amazon Echo that works flawlessly, Having multiple different ˝techs˝ telling users to reset the device repeatedly to factory, is a proven waste of time. Blaming the victims of faulty merchandise? REALLY??? Shame on Google. SHAME!!! It is clear Google can not fix this very basic problem. It is time for a recall/refund or a class action suit.

Hey Google, read my product review - I'll be reviewing on more and more reseller sites soon as I can.

I have 4 Google nest Hubs - they all worked perfectly. Specifically, the family use several for Digital Radio Alarms. But, back in July, the alarm could not be snoozed any more. A week or so later, there was no Radio Alarm at all - just default beeping.
I tried rebooting, tried resetting.
Contacted Google who suggested rebooting and then suggested resetting, then suggested rebooting the modem (???) - then there was 'radio silence'.
Several other owners have the same product with the same issue - yet no support out of Google.
Now, after 6 months, a reply from Google asking what the problem is - shocking support.
So, if you want a hub for a digital radio alarm - buy Alexa instead because your google hub won't do it and don't expect any kind of support from google

Radio alarms don't work on Google hub. Google can't/won't fix this well documented problem.  Google needs to refund cost of hubs to all consumers!

My first time replying on this thread, but I've experienced the exact same problems with streaming Internet radio stations as all of you.  I just bought my mom a $35 Echo Show 5 and streaming Internet radio alarms function flawlessly after full testing today.  I bought my Nest Hub during Christmas 2020 and it worked perfectly with Internet radio station alarms until this past summer.  It's clear from the comedy of silly Google answers that they have no clue how to fix this problem.  So funny how they keep asking if it's still going in when it's SOOOO easy to test it themselves.  I'm ditching my Nest hubs and going all in on Alexa.  An added benefit to switching to Amazon Alexa is that the shared list functions (like Shopping lists for groceries, etc) work with voice, unlike Google shared lists.  Ciao, Google Home!

Here's something interesting - for Aussie's anyway.

My review has been accepted and published by several large Australian outlets including JB HiFi, OfficeWorks and Bing Lee.

It is an honest and factual representation of my experience with this matter.

Harvey Norman has declined the review and will not publish it....I guess it might hurt their sales.

Shows which outlets you can trust to print honest reviews and which will sell, sell, sell.

Here's just about all the info I have - I've given it all before.....but here it is again.

I live in Melbourne, Australia

Radio Alarm is set to Triple M Classic Rock (for some reason it's selecting triple M Classic Rock Gold Coast but I'm cool with that....if only it would work).

2 alarms are set one for weekdays and one for weekends - both to the same radio station.

I have 4 Nest Hubs - 2 x Gen 1 and 2 x Gen 2 - here are the details of each:

 Device: 1Device: 2Device: 3Device: 4
ModelGUIK2GUIK2
System Firmware version3248963248968.20220713.2.1940598.20220713.2.194059

Chromecast firmware version1.56.3248961.56.3248961.63.3247401.63.324740

I have also reset device 2 and device 4 - and now cannot set a radio alarm at all on device 4.

So, advice to reset and see if that fixes the problem has only made it worse.

I have noticed that devices 3 & 4 sometimes show language as English (Australia) and sometimes this line is missing in the device info altogether

This has been a long running and frustrating issue.

Hey folks,

Let's try these steps below and let us know how it goes.

  1. From the mobile device, open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap on the Google Home Speaker or Display device card to access settings then look for the option to "Remove" then tap it to remove.
  3. Create a new home structure and add the home address.
  4. Add or move the Google Home Speaker or Display to the new home structure.
  5. Reboot the Google Home Speaker or Display.
  6. Test the feature again.

@Hammmer: My apologies, but there's no ETA as of this moment.

Cheers,

Muddi

OK - I've done this - made not difference.

I removed all 4 hubs from my 'home' and removed my door bell.

Then, 'I left home'

Set up a new home (same name as the last home).  Added my address etc.

Then, one by one, factory reset each hub and added to the newly create home.

With all hub added (have not reset the doorbell as I am charging it up first), I tried to set a radio alarm twice - the hub has set a 'standard' alarm each time.

Tried the same thing on a different hub - same result - it set a standard alarm.

Respect is earned and yours has been lost. Miserably. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Again: you need to FIX THE PROBLEM and stop asking us to repeat the same exact information over and over only to repeatly ask that we perform the same, useless reset to factory. AFTER SIX MONTHS, YOU OWE US A FULL REFUND!!!

Hammmer

Hi Muddi,

I do not support or appreciate any disrespectful comments being made.

I am pretty sure you guys are not the ones that actually write the code but are 'the interface' between us consumers and the Google Techs.

That said, this issue has been dragging on for a long time.

We have given Google the same feedback multiple times and so this is frustrating for those that have paid for products expecting that they will work.

From my experience, the issue has actually got worse - now I cannot even set a radio alarm (it only ever played the alarm tones anyway).

Now, when I set a radio alarm the 'radio' part is completey ignored by the device.

if it's not going to work, perhaps Google ought to offer owners the option of returning the products (to google) for an RRP refund .....I'd go right out and purchase Alexa products.
