RADIO ALARMS NO LONGER WORK

Thksnow
Community Member

I have a Nest Hub which I have set up as a bedroom alarm clock with alarms which play one of my local FM radio stations. It has worked fine for months playing the local FM radio station via TuneIn. A few months ago the alarms started playing one of the standard alarm sounds as opposed to the radio station. I factory reset the hub and put in new alarms for the radio station and now it plays the radio station at the alarm time (see picture) but when you hit snooze or cancel it just keeps playing the radio station. You can verbally tell it to stop playing and it will, but if you pressed snooze originally it will come back on 10 mins later. Has anyone else seen this problem and does anyone know how to solve it?  I've sent in data under a previous post, but after lots of back and forth with some Google folks they have now gone silent and have not produced a fix.  Come on Google!!!!

Hey folks,

Sorry for the delays. Seems like we've been seeing quite an increase in reports around this issue and thanks for sharing your feedback on this thread. The team would love your help to look into this issue further. In order for the team to explore further, we need to gather additional feedback from affected customers.

You can send feedback from your Google Home/Nest device by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback." While you're sharing your feedback, it's important to use the keywords, "Radio Alarms not working". For more instructions on how to send feedback, check this out.

Also, please provide the following information below as this will help us further investigate the issue:

  • When did the issue start?
  • What country are you located in?
  • What Google Home/Nest device do you have?
  • What is the current firmware version?
  • Is it happening to a specific station/radio provider?

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

So, here's a video to show how much worse following Google's advice to try resetting has made the issue.

At the end of the video linked, you can see that the Google Nest Hub can play the digital radio station that I want to use as an alarm.

But, where as previously, I could set the digital radio alarm, I cannot even set this now - the hub insists on setting a basic alarm (which is all I was getting anyway).

Sent all the requested info, tried all the requested steps, gave all the feedback asked for and it's all gone very quiet again.

I'm shocked! Google has a scripted response, but ABSOLUTELY NO FIX!!!

For  the past week I have had no alarms at all.

Basic alarm set (because the radio alarm does not work)

At the set time the hub shows Stop and snooze as though the alarm is ringing - but it's totally silent,

This issue is only getting worse and worse and it's dragging on and on.

Very disappointed with Google and their products

Have been battling the same issue for over a year. Radio alarm either fails to go off entirely, or goes off but for 1 second and then stops, or does work but when I snooze it it goes back to a normal alarm tone. Since I bought it to replace an old clock radio this is no good to me. Fortunately I bought it from John Lewis in the UK who are kindly letting me return it under warranty. Useless piece of rubbish.

Bought my first Nest hub for exactly the same reason - and the radio alarm worked great.

So happy with it that I bought another for my home-office and had music play on it every work day.

Then, as I could link Swann cameras (and have a pool) added a 3rd hub for the kitchen - listen to music on that.

Finally, bought Google door bell and so added a 4th in my wife's home-office - so that either of us could answer the door; she plays music on it all day every day.

BUT, for almost a year, we have been fighting (it seems like) with Google to fix the problem that they have somehow created.

As these products no longer work, and google seem incapable of fixing it, I'd like a full (retail price) refund for all 4 hubs (and my door bell) so that I can switch to Amazon/Alexa.

Hello

o just got my nest hub over the weekend. I set it up using voice command to have a reoccurring alarm set for weekdays at 640am playing ride of the Valkyrie’s. Today the alarm went off at 640am. I hit snooze and then the nest hub changed the alarm sound to the the digital sound and went off once for 2 mins and never came back.

Basically my alarm never went off again.  How do I correct this. I am a heavy sleeper and need a loud alarm to wake me up. I bough the nest hub hoping it would be beneficial. I have the latest firmware I just checked.  It is brand new purchased from Best Buy over the weekend. Thanks Gregg

The issues was not setting the alarm but if I set the alarm to music and snoozed the next time the alarm went off it was not to the music but to the default alarm sound. That was annoying

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help, @MikeClark.

@Gshaw34, thanks for posting. This is not the experience that we wanted you to have, let me help you out. You can try to do a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Nest Hub for 30 seconds, then do the same thing to your Wi-Fi router to refresh both devices and your Wi-Fi signal. Once booted up, try the feature again and observe if it will make a difference.

Looking forward to your response.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Juni

I will give it a shot. I tried it again 2 nights ago and the alarm did not even go off. I got a message in the nest stating you missed your alarm. I had the surmise alarm set with the music so I will try it as just a standard alarm with no sunrise alarm.

I set an alarm using music last night again. I did not do a sunrise alarm. The music played. I hit snooze and the next time the alarm went off, the alarms was one of the default nest alarms.  I bought this for the sole purpose of playing music to my alarms to wake me up. Basically it is 100 dollars wasted. So not happy

Basically the nest is useless for what I will be using it for. I would like to return it and will get an echo which gets better reviews. Not happy

I also  have this issue of the radio alarms (audacy and tunein) not working, but rather the default alarm ringtone.  If the radio alarm does happen to work,  the snooze will then be the default ringtone.  I have reset the router and nest hub, and performed a factory reset on the nest hub, but still have the problem.

I think at this point it is obvious that google does not know how to get the radio alarm to function or they are simply are refusing to so you have to buy a new device in the future.  I tried everything listed in this thread and nothing worked for me.

My solution: buy an Echo Show 5 or 8, of which the radio alarms work perfectly for me.

So very fed up with this.

Over a year now and still no further forward.

AND Google keep asking, 'do you need any more help with this issue"

It's not been fixed so, yes, we all still have the same issue.

I am very, very disappointed in Google as I am quite invested in google devices, hubs, cameras, doorbells etc.  So, if I get rid of my hubs (and I have 5), I'll also have to change doorbells, cameras etc.

One reason I've been holding out for a fix.

But now, after more than a year, what are the chances !

However, I will start to post my reviews of the google hubs on reseller websites - feel free to edit/use.

I have 5 Google nest Hubs - they all worked perfectly. Specifically, the family use several for Digital Radio Alarms. For over a year now the radio alarm would not be snooze and I had to press STOP twice to stop it.  About a week or so later, there was no Radio Alarm at all - just default beeping.
I tried rebooting, tried resetting.
Contacted Google who suggested rebooting and then suggested resetting, then suggested rebooting the modem (???) - then there was 'radio silence'.
Several other owners have the same product with the same issue - yet no support out of Google.
Now, after more than a year, a reply from Google asking what the problem is - shocking support.
So, if you want a hub for a digital radio alarm - buy Alexa instead because your google hub won't do it and don't expect any kind of support from google"

Hi everyone,

I understand the ongoing frustration many of you are experiencing around the overall radio alarm issues with your devices for some time now. Rest assured the team is aware of this issue and looking into this with our relevant partners. I know this may not be the answer you're looking for at the moment, but once we have new information to share, I'll update this thread.

We appreciate your patience.

Cheers,

Not holding breath.

Yet another 2 months pass and no action or comms from Google - my frustration is off the scale.

I have now purchased an Amazon Echo 8 and will start the process of disposing of my Google Hubs and Door Bell - UPGRADING everything to Amazon.

I don't see that I have any other choice as Google obviously do not care.

Yep, Google has clearly shown that customer support is something they care very little about, which is something I never would have expected from them before this.  I know, however, from other experiences with them since this problem started that they have shown this to be true over and over.  I'm going to switch to Amazon devices also.  I hope it's a better experience.  Good luck with your switch over.
