Random loss of wifi connection on one nest mini

irvplotkin
Community Member

I have some 8 google nest minis between our two homes  One of them looses its internet connection almost every day. Sometimes it may go several days without a loss then when asked it says “Sorry I cannot connect to the net.”  It has a very strong wifi signal from a router just 15 feet away in line of sight. By rebutting (power off then back on) it quickly picks up the wifi signal. It has never lost the signal while streaming. This started only after say 6 months of usage. None of the other behave this way. Any thoughts??

Hey irvplotkin,

Sorry to hear about your Nest Mini that randomly disconnects from your WiFi network, and we understand how you feel about this.

These can be caused by several factors such as network congestion, and outdated Nest Mini's firmware version. We'd love to dig deeper into this. To eliminate network issues, please try setting up your device using a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Nest Mini). Once done, check if your device will have the same behavior.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi

It happens too randomly to leave my phone there for an extended time period.

Hey irvplotkin,

Apologize for the delays. Thanks for that information. Please provide the information below:

  • Make and model of the router.
  • Firmware version of Nest Mini
  • The last activity the speaker did before it started to disconnect. It could be anything like stereo pairing, when music is cast, when media is cast on audio groups, or when basic questions are asked. If others, please specify.
  • Did the device recover by itself, reconnect automatically, or if they need to reboot.

It would also be helpful for the team's investigation if you could send feedback using the keywords, "GHT3 Nest Mini disconnects from WiFi." For more instructions on how to send feedback via your Google Home, check this out.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

TP-Link Archer AX 10

Firmware 279716
Cast firmware 1.54.279716
I’m told that it automatically updates. Is that true?

It is only 20 feet in line of sight to the router.

Usually asked for the local weather, but looses the wifi maybe a day later.
Quite random. One time I believe it reconnected by itself after many hours, but I always have to disconnect the power and reconnect for it to regain the Wi-Fi.

I filled out the form as best I could. The info in my reply is all that is known.
btw, is it true that the mini auto updates it’s operating system?  I found no way to do so manually. Thanks again for all the help.
