Return speakers and hub

JohnnySaigon

3years into the Google product universe. 4 speakers, 2 hubs, wifi and a doorbell. But, I want out. I keep needing to switch over to Siri to get anything done. Lights, music, automations are all a disaster. I can’t even get a reliable music alarm to work on my hub. Siri is the only assistant that can reliably turn on my lights and stream music requests- and I’m using Spotify!

I want out. I’m switching to Apple mini speakers and my iPads.

Will Google take this stuff back and give me my money back for this frustrating failure? Or have I made a costly mistake?

Hi @JohnnySaigon

They won't take back out of warranty hardware as far as I know.

What made you change to the dark side?  You will regret it.  More money than sense.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help, @JillG.

@JohnnySaigon, thanks for posting. This is not the experience that we wanted you to have, let me help you out. Let’s run some steps so we can help you fix your concern. Could you tell us more about what's happening? Based on your post here are some links that might help.

Set and manage alarms and media alarms

Use smart lights with Google Nest or Home devices

Listen to music on speakers and displays

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Juni

Hi Juni,

Thanks for reaching out. I have tried many, many fixes and work around tricks. I’ve decided that it’s no longer worth the constant effort. Google seems to be suffering from significant lags. I’ll ask a request, such as turn on a light, it will take 10 - 15 seconds to happen. Then the next day it will be fine. When I use Siri, I get an immediate response. A starter phrase such as, it’s time for dinner, will result in a negative response. Occasionally I need to change my phrase to not include "it’s" and replace it with "it is" to get it to work. My new battery Nest doorbell take 20 - 30 seconds to show a history event. I’ll check my Google Wifi and Wifi point speed and they show I have a fast, solid internet connection but Google is taking forever to respond to basic commands or not at all.  When I request a song on Spotify I end up with no music about 25% of the time. Now that I use Siri it plays music 100% of the time. If I try to switch music to a grouped pair of speakers by asking Google, it doesn’t connect 50% of the time but Siri can connect to the Google speakers 100% of the time. Siri home just works for inputted commands to turn on lights.  Google home is constantly hit and miss to just turn on a light.
Using my Apple Watch to control my home is consistent and reliable.   Google home is not. I’m officially out of the Google universe. I’ve ordered an Apple mini speaker and will begin the process of switching over to Apple. I really, really wanted this to work.

There's always Alexa, you don't have to buy the overpriced Apple stuff.

Even this page is going slow.  I think Google have run out of money for decent servers.
