Routines broken

Ruldis
Community Member

The setup:

- Nest audio, a phone that has norwegian set as it's primary language and the wifes phone that has english

The problem:

- If I am using the nest alone, routines work as expected, for example - "Hei, google! God morgen!" presents me with the preset routine. Weather, calendar, tell me if the phones battery is low - start news in norwegian. Mind you we use Norwegian as the primary language. Since fairly recently, whenever I add my wife this routine blows up. It will randomly give me news in english - but worst of all it just repeats "sorry, I didn't understand that" several times and then starts norwegian news anyway (or randomly - english news).

I can repeat the presentation through each reset by adding the wife. Haven't found this exact problem described previously. Am I entitled to go full Karen here and burn with gasoline, or is there something easy that I've missed and am losing my mind over nothing?

Hello @Ruldis,

Thanks for reaching out. Did you add a second language to Google Assistant? You can follow these steps to do that, which might help you solve this issue.

Hope that helps! 🙂

We've tried this - removing/adding languages several times. Even changing and syncing our system languages. It DOES say beta under multiple language support, but it did also WORK before with no hiccups at all.

Hi  Ruldis,

This is not the experience we want you to have, let me help you. A few questions: when did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made?

We might have to add your wife as a home member for her to set up a voice match to be recognized by your Nest Audio. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Switch to the home you want to share.
  3. At the top, tap Add > Invite home member > Invite person.
    • If you don't find "Invite home member," tap Add person to home.
  4. Enter the name or email address of the person you want to invite to your home > tap Next.
  5. Review what’s shared when you add someone to your home > tap Next.
  6. Review the person’s access to your home > tap Send.
  7. If your Google Family Group isn’t full and the person you’re inviting isn’t already in one, you should get the option to invite them to your Google Family Group.
    • To invite them, tap Add to Family.
    • To skip this step, tap No Thanks.
    • Note: You can have up to 6 members in a Google Family Group.

The person you invite should receive an email with instructions.

Note: If the person you want to invite has already requested to join your home, you need to accept that request instead of sending a new invitation.

For additional information about home members, see this guide.

Once done, if voice match is needed, follow the steps in this link and tell me how it goes.

Thanks for helping,  listairee.

Best,

Dan

Hello Dan!

I cannot really recall when the issue started exactly, but if I recall correctly it was the end of december 22'. The speaker was bought and set up in june of 22' and since then I had not made any changes to any settings. I have since restarted/reset it several times to no avail.

The wife has been a member of the houshold from the very start, she set up her own voice match and as I mentioned - it worked perfectly fine, and could distinguish between norwegian/english. We've also tried to go through the setup from her side - with the only change being that HER routines work fine, but mine are still broken.

I'm still getting the  "sorry, I didn't understand that" to events/weather/battery status in my morning routine, the news start - BUT - an even weirder thing happened after the most recent attempt at resetting everything - google will read norwegian news station names in english (as in - the english voice reads norwegian text), but then the news stations play just fine.

I think we've tried most everything now except resetting our phones.

No, unfortunately I'm stuck with the same problem I had. Unsure what else there is left to try...

Hey there Ruldis,

I understand. For confirmation, when you mentioned the reset, was it the same steps as what you see in this link? Otherwise, try the factory reset steps to revert your Nest Audio to its default and original settings. You might also need to re-install your Google Home app instead of resetting your phone to start fresh.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Dan
