Speaker pauses when commanded to stop

I just bought 3 Google Nest Mini 2nd gen.

All have same issue: when playing any radio station and commanded to stop, the speaker goes into pause state. In Google Home app you see the "pause" staus and can only stop it by clicking on "stop casting". No voice command works to do the same.

Tried factory reset, and wifi reboot but problem remains.

I've mentioned this in another thread.   The problem still exists

This is the way they have worked since they first came out. Chromecasts stop content but speakers do not, they just pause. I believe display devices like the hub also stop the content.

I've always just assumed that is their intended behavior.

It's fine that it does "pause'  but then minutes later the music starts up on its own.  It does not respond to "stop"

That is odd. I haven't had that happen. My kids play music on their mini speakers almost every morning and then they say stop when going to school and I've never heard the speakers turn themselves back on while working from home.

Are you sure someone isn't accidentally hitting play on the notification on the phone (if using Android)?

Had a pair of nest speakers for over a year. Telling them to stop, or just tapping them always sends them into a paused state. Then if nothing else is done after about 9 or 10 minutes they will then go into full inactive state automatically. I believe this is by design. They have never started up on their own.

Issue happens when you listen to the radio on tunein. I think it’s because they inject commercials now and that causes the speaker to unpause and start playing again. I haven’t found a fix yet. It’s super annoying!

Hi @Eggroll .

You may possibly be onto something there. Interestingly I occasionally play the radio station of Classic FM. Up until a few months ago on my google audio speakers this was always played via Global Player. Then it changed to playing through Tunein instead that seemed to have additional adverts inserted. To get round this I just created a short routine called Classic FM that gives the command ''Play Classic Fm from global player', so instead of using Tunein it uses 'Global Player' and avoids the additional adverts injected by Tunein.

I assume that Google started defaulting to Tunein for monetary reasons, heaven forbid.

Of course this will only work if the radio station required is supported by 'Global Player'.

Hey @Kadven ,

My issue started a few months ago also. Thanks for the tip on global player but unfortunately my station isn’t on that platform.  I’ll have to keep digging 😬

Same going on with my best mini and google mini. Also turns on light randomly. Seems like an update is needed badly.
