Spotify premium required to play songs.

This last week, when asking e.g. "hey google, play Yellow Submarine", my speaker has replied with something like "Choosing songs is only available to Spotify Premium users, how about this playlist instead?". It then plays something else.

I have Spotify premium and have had for years. Everything has worked fine on my google speakers until this last week. My Google Home shows my Spotify Premium account as being connected. The speaker says all the firmware is up to date.

I've removed Spotify and re-connected it. I've reset the speaker to factory default and installed it again. Results are the same.

Why does it think I don't have Spotify Premium? How do I resolve this? Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem! Been like this a few weeks now. Worked fine before, and still no solution from Google!

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for posting in the community.
I appreciate the detailed information about the issue.
It's frustrating when Google Assistant doesn't recognize your Spotify Premium status. I appreciate your effort in trying to fix the issue on your own. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

  1. Verify Account Status: Ensure your Spotify Premium subscription is active and not expired.
  2. Update Payment Information: If necessary, update your payment information to avoid any interruptions.
  3. Unlink and Relink: In the Google Home app, unlink your Spotify account and then relink it.
  4. Music Settings: Ensure your Spotify account is correctly linked as the default music provider in the Google Home app settings.
  5. Try a Different Voice Command: Experiment with different voice commands to see if the issue is specific to the "play Yellow Submarine" command.

Please let me know how it goes. I will be more than happy to continue helping you if needed. Thank you.

All the best,
Jorge

None of those suggestions are useful. Of course Spotify is active, of course it’s the default account (it wouldn’t mention Spotify if the default was YouTube). Spotify works fine on every other device and connection, the issue is the Nest.

Hi Pkk1973,

Thank you for posting in the community! I apologize that your Nest speaker doesn't recognize your Spotify Premium account. I'd be happy to help.

I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve this inconvenience. To better assist you, I’d like to ask the following:

  • What is the model of your Google Nest speaker and the model of your mobile device?
  • Do you have another mobile device connected to the Nest speaker and with the same account? If so, is it experiencing the same inconvenience with the default music server?

Since you've already completed all the suggested steps, I recommend creating a new home structure. For this, please follow the next steps:

  • Ensure that both your mobile device and the Google Home app are up-to-date with the latest software. This can often resolve compatibility issues.
  • Factory reset the device and unlink the Spotify music server.
  • Delete the Google Home app and reinstall it again.
  • Create a new home structure and set it up again. For reference about how to create a new home, you can check out this article: Share a home & devices in the Google Home app.
  • Link the music service. You can check out this article: Link your music services and set your default service.
  • If the above steps don't resolve the inconvenience, it's possible there might be a temporary issue with Spotify's platform. Please contact Spotify's customer support for more information. This would be very helpful to isolate the inconvenience with the Spotify platform.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jennifer
