Trouble with maths

SunnyRio
Community Member

I tried to do the following calculation on my Google Home: 3.037807*18, for which I said (clearly as I don't have an accent) "Hey Google, what's three point zero three seven eight zero seven times eighteen".  It said "I'm sorry, I don't understand".  The most I could get it to do was 3.037*18.  Any more decimal places and it just said it didn't understand.  It has no trouble understanding anything else I say.  I have already retrained my voice, there is no background noise.  I've done lots of even more complex maths on it before, why is it having trouble with this?

Can anyone try the above calculation on their device please?

Feedback sent by voice on my Google Home as "My Google Home is unable to do the calculation 3.037807*18, it says "I'm sorry I don't understand", but it will do 3.037*18. A similar thing happens with any other number with a lot of decimal places. This has been confirmed not to work by a Diamond Product Expert in the community forums."

Thanks for sending the feedback. Every now and then somebody finds a voice glitch like that.

I didn't try it but sometimes using a description before a request helps... something like Multiply the number 1.2345 times the number 12.

Again, thanks for the feedback report

It didn't understand that.

Hi folks,

@JillG, thanks for the help.

@SunnyRio, I wanted to follow up and see if you still need help. What Nest speaker do you use? Have you already tried other numbers to see if we can narrow this down? Please let me know if you are still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Dan

It's the original Google Home speaker. I tried other numbers, it seems any number with a lot of decimal places multiplied by a whole number confuses it. Not sure which device JillG has that also failed, but assuming it's a different one, and since the recognition is done on the server, I assume you would encounter the same problem and could try a few yourself. 3.037807*18, for which I said "Hey Google, what's three point zero three seven eight zero seven times eighteen" always has it not understand.

Hello there,

Thank you for the feedback!

I totally understand that these are good features to use with your Google Home speaker, but, these features are not yet available. Up to 3 decimal points are allowed. We appreciate people who are keen on sharing their thoughts with us. We're always looking for ways to improve. Let us know if you have other questions and concerns otherwise, we will be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Best regards,

Dan

If it doesn't want more than 3 decimal places, why not say that instead of pretending not to understand?

Anyway it gives answers with more accuracy. Just ask it to divide 10 by 3 and you get 3.333333

Hello again,

You got that right. It shows that the Google Assistant can answer with decimal points more than 2-3 however, it isn't able to fully understand the command given by the customer that includes decimal points more than 3. And sending feedback helps us become better and improve more. If you have further questions or help needed just ask away, for I will be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Thanks,

Dan
