Two Nest devices, two separate issues

BlackOwl37

I own a Nest Mini and a Nest Hub. Both seem to have experienced problems starting around the same time, although the problems are very different in nature.

The Nest Mini has begun making popping noises, only when audio is being played, at seemingly random intervals. Much like a regular speaker would in some circumstances. The mini is less than a year old and it does not matter what audio is playing.

The Nest Hub (2nd gen), up until now, has responded to low and no light by dimming itself or turning off the display entirely. Around the same time as the above issue, it has begun displaying itself on the fullest brightness, all the time (unless I ask it to switch off, in which case it does temporarily). I can change the brightness but it does not seem to recognise or respond to the light dimming.

I have power-cycled both devices to no avail. I have no idea where to go from here - I'm guessing the Hub issue is an easy one I'm overlooking but the Mini issue may be something else entirely. Both devices are less than one year old.

Any thoughts or ideas?

I’ve been having the same issue with my Nest Mini and I’ve seen other people say the same thing, so I’m thinking it’s probably not broken, just glitching. But then, what do I know?

I mean, that would make sense. Are they kinda random pops every few minutes or so, and only when audio is playing?

My pops have never showed up when the Assistant's voice is playing, only during an iHeartRadio broadcast or calming sounds.

Hi folks,

@BlackOwl37, @limuremu, this is not the experience we want you to have; let us help you. A few questions: when did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord from your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

If the issue persists, you can revert your device to its original settings by doing a factory reset. Open this link to learn how to factory reset your device. Set them up afterwards.

Best,

Dan

Thanks Dan

I have already performed the power cycle with no changes to either device. I will try the factory reboot for both devices and report back.

I have finally noticed a pop during the Assistant's voice on the Mini, so it is not isolated to any particular kind of activity.

The issues started at roughly the same time, a few days to a week before my initial post. I can't pin down exact days for either one.

Frustratingly, the Mini is a device I can't claim warranty for as I was not the original purchaser (bought it at a fundraiser).

Yep exactly what you described, and only when music is playing. I haven’t done much with mine since the issue started but I only hear it when I try to play Spotify.

Hello there,

@BlackOwl37, @limuremu, apologies for the delay. Our team is aware of this behavior on the Nest Mini. To help the team to further look into this, please send feedback on your device by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," followed by the keywords: GHT3 popping sound on Nest Mini. Learn more about how to send feedback on our Help Center.

@BlackOwl37, just to confirm, is your Nest Hub (2nd Gen) automatically switching from light/dark theme?

Looking forward to your response.

Kind regards,

Dan

Hi @Dan_A , thank you for your reply.

The Nest Hub is not switching themes. The issue is now confirmed to be intermittent and hard to replicate, but it's to do with Ambient EQ not properly sensing darkness and staying backlit throughout the night. At present the issue has resolved itself, but it's worth noting that a factory reset was not sufficient - the issue presented itself after the reset, then disappeared on its own a few days to a week later.

I will send through the feedback about the Mini tonight.
