When I say "Hey Google" to my Nest Hub at night, it comes on FULL BRIGHTNESS. How can I change this?

I have Night Mode setup and it goes nice and dim at night....until I speak to it to set an alarm or turn on white noise. Then, the screen comes on FULL BRIGHT and is very annoying. Any ideas?

Hey darrylkropp,

Good question! Adjust the screen brightness of your Google Nest Hub screen by following the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home App.
  2. Select the Nest Hub display.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings > Display.
  4. Locate the Auto-brightness offset slider.
    • To increase the brightness, move the slider to the right (Brighter).
    • To decrease the brightness, move the slider to the left (Dimmer).

Here's a link that will be helpful to you: Ambient EQ of your Google Nest display

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. It maybe helps a little bit but really doesn’t make an appreciable difference. Any other ideas? It is sooo bright in a dark room when I give it a command such as SET ALARM.

The problem is when the room is pitch black and the screen is at its dimmest (LOW LIGHT MODE). Say "Hey Google, wake me up at 6:30am." It will wake to its absolute brightest to show the alarm screen. The Ambient EQ seems to affect the display default but not what happens in response to a command. While there is a MINIMUM DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS, there also should be a MAXIMUM DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS to govern the use case I'm describing.

Can you please test this and let me know if I'm missing something?

Hi darrylkropp,

Try adjusting the screen brightness manually. Follow the steps below:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the quick settings menu, then tap the Brightness icon.
  2. Swipe the slider left or right to adjust the brightness level.
  3. Tap the Brightness icon again to toggle Ambient EQ on or off.

Let me know if that works.

Hi Muddi:

Thanks for getting back to me. That does work for dimming the display at night. However, it leaves the display extra dim during the day, when it needs to be full bright. It seems clear that that the software is missing an important option that would allow night dimming option and daytime brightness. Can you please investigate this?

Hi darrylkropp,

Thanks for trying the steps. When you swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the quick settings menu, tap on the sun icon on the left and make sure that the lette "A" is inside the sun icon. That means Ambient mode is turned on wherein the Google Nest Hub will adjust its brightness depending on its environment.

Let me know if this works.

Best,

Princess
