Why don't speaker groups work properly?

Hello. I've just asked a Nest Hub Max to play a track on an established speaker group. Here are the first twelve responses:

  1. ‘OK, (name of track). You can play that on (names some but not all of the individual speakers in the group)’
  2. no command response but a different speaker responds ‘alright, playing (name of track)’ and track plays but only on that speaker
  3. ‘got it, playing (name of track) on all speakers’ and track plays on all speakers including the Nest Hub Max, except one speaker that responds ‘sorry there was a glitch, try again in a few seconds’)
  4. ‘OK, playing (name of track) on all speakers' but nothing plays anywhere
  5. no command response but track plays on all speakers, including the Nest Hub Max
  6. no command response but track plays on all speakers, including the Nest Hub Max, except one speaker that responds ‘something went wrong, try again after a few seconds’
  7. no command response but track plays on all speakers except the Nest Hub Max
  8. ‘sorry, something went wrong, try again in a few seconds’, another speaker responds ’nothing is playing right now’ and nothing plays anywhere
  9. ‘OK, playing (name of track)' and track plays on all speakers except the Nest Hub Max
  10. ‘sure, playing (name of track) on all speakers’ and track plays on all speakers except the Hub Max
  11. 'got it, playing (name of track)' and tracks plays but only on Nest Hub Max
  12. ‘alright, (name of track), playing on all speakers’ and track plays on all speakers

Just for fun, I tried casting the same track from my phone to the same speaker group. On the first attempt the track played on all speakers except the Nest Hub Max. On the second attempt the track played on all speakers. So, casting doesn't appear to be any more reliable than voice commands.

Why can't google make speaker groups function properly and reliably?

Hi dpd,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know about your speaker group concern. We'll work together to identify the cause of the problem and find a solution. You can refresh your devices and observe if it makes a difference. First, reboot your Wi-Fi router, and once the network is back up, do the same thing to your Google Nest speakers and display. You can also delete the speaker group and create a new one, then check if you will get a different experience.

Regards,

Juni
