Why no recent news briefings?

I recently switched from an Amazon Echo Dot to a Google Home Mini. It has been a good swap in some ways, but one irksome thing is stale news bulletins.

With Alexa, I could ask to play BBC News for a particular region (e.g. "Play BBC News for London") and she would duly serve up a briefing from the latest hour (e.g. 2pm news if I ask at 2:30pm) or the hour before (e.g. 1pm news if I ask too close to the hour, e.g. at 2:05pm).

With Google Assistant, I can ask for the same news source at say 6pm but the briefing I get is many hours old (e.g. from 7:25am).

Any idea what the problem is here, and how to resolve it please?

Hi Larches, it may be a matter of how frequently Google's server polls for updates for news services or it could be how the news service makes the items available push/or upload. These devices are speakers, and not the source; content providers are in partnership with Google.

I'd leave feedback in the Home app by clicking your profile pic and choosing the feedback option.

Hi @GothamNY, thank you for your response.

Of the those possibilities, I'm guessing it would come down to Google's polling rather than the news service, given that it works well with the same news service via Alexa. Unless the BBC are restricting updates specifically for Google for some reason.

I will try leaving feedback as you suggest (but won't hold my breath for a quick fix!).
