Hey all,

Apologies for the confusion around the supported devices for speaker groups. We let the right teams know, and we can confirm that speakers with Chromecast built-in are supported. We've also updated the list of supported devices on our Help Center article "Create and manage speaker groups" to make it more specific than before.

Thanks for your feedback here in the community -- feel free to update the thread if you have any further questions!

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey folks,

Sorry for the delayed response. Please note that there are selected TVs that are compatible or can be added to the speakers group with your Google Home/Nest devices. You may want to check with your manufacturer if your TV is one of those devices.

For now, we can only guarantee that the devices listed on this link will work best when grouped together.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey there,

Sorry to hear about the troubles you're having with this, I'm sure it may be confusing, but I'm happy to look into this for you.

I would suggest using these steps:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Chromecast, or speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app .
  3. Tap your speaker group Settings Choose devices.
  4. Tap each device you want to add to the group. ...
  5. Tap each device you want to remove from the group.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

Hello GarrethDS,

Thanks in advance for helping and for responding.

I have discovered that the problem is, that I can't add my Philips TV to my Google Home account. I'm trying to contact Phillips Support now.
What happened: It does recognize the television in Google Home as a device in my WIFI, but it won't let me add it to my devices.

Best regards,

Kees

Hello there! I‘m experiencing the same issues here: my TV is sony bravia xr-65x92j and it has one built-in Chromecast. But it is just not shown in the google home while creating the group speaker. . this is very annoying. Could anyone tell if any success got?

I have the exact same problem with my Sony Bravia it shows up in devices but it does not show up when I want to create a speaker group

Imagine posting the instructions to do what people tried to do already and got frustrated to come here for help. Please remove the specialist title

I believe that warranted a much more punitive response.. most people that know how to get to this area and post have already done the basic troubleshooting... I've had two different brands of TV one with Android TV one was Google TV neither one of them will do it... I had a Amazon fire TV that would... Go figure

Your how to page clearly lists chromecast built-in as a supported speaker group device.

Not listed when creating group. Steps below does not help. How can we receive support?

Did you give this advice knowing full and well that that google TVs ironically can't be used in Google speaker groups

If anyone is still following this thread, I think I have the solution.

I came yesterday looking for answers and see it is a common concern

If you still have a Chroecast - the little grey device - simpley plug it into a HDMI port (I used 2) and then put your TC onto the HDMI channel.

I was able to pick up the Chormecast - the name I had used for it before I upgraded my TV came up on the search. Yeehaaaa!!! I was able to use the existing speaking group as the Chroecast came up in it.

I was thrilled. Hope this works for you.

While that’s a workaround, if you’re happy with that, more power to you.  I’d like to use the native functionality of the TV, for the remote to work properly, and not have 2 google TVs existing because some software engineer was too hungover to code this properly.

I couldn't agree more! I just want to be able to use my speaker group - I have Google Nest Home and 5 speakers, a great Samsung Soundbar as well. Upgraded my TV to Android ( i used to have an old TV hence the Chromecast) and now have said New TV with attached old chromecaster. At least I can get my speaker group happening once more. Goodle stillpicks up[ my voice commancs for New TV so all is not lost. But yes, one more line of coding.......

This isn't a fix though right. You're saying you just used a chrome cast on your TV so bypassing the TVs built in Chromecast and not using that?

That's what that device is meant to do. Still doesn't make the TV itself connect. It either purposely not allowed which is why they haven't fixed it or its a bug and too many TV variations to work with.

The point of this thread is that not only is it “allowed” but google specifically has instructions on how to make a google tv part of a speaker group. These instructions do not work as they are advertised to work. Most people in this thread are here because they purchased the google tv with the expressed intention based on advertisement, to use the tv as part of a speaker group. I myself replaced an android tv with a google tv for this very reason, to simply find out it was false advertising.

Agree 100%. Why have a chrome cast TV if we're plugging a Google Chromecast into it? Google needs to sort this. It is false advertising from them.

this is not truely a solution. Dont know if they will ever fix it. They have never responded anymore.

Does this work with all Chromecast models? I have some really old ones, 1st or 2nd Gen I think. I think I remember something about how old ones won't work that way.

I don't knoiw - but worth trying. I'm not sure the old ones have the HDMI plug.

I tried my old one (i think it's 2nd gen) and it worked!  Added to speaker group, but I had to adjust the delay to get the speakers to sync.

well if you know why google home isnt recognizing the tv, or if it s a known issue, pls let me know. phillips support hasnt been in touch with me yet.

basically every new thing i have in my home was directly recognized. that s why im confusef why a 1200 dollar tv isnt.

I'm having the same exact problem with my Sony Bravia Android TV with built in Chromecast. It's literally a Google TV that will not work with my Google Home App lol

I've got th Bravia also, the irony is that you can put a Chromecast in the back to make it a group, which is literally the same thing that's built in the TV

Yes! +1 to this! How can a 2021 Sony Bravia Google TV not be compatible for speaker groups in home. Wouldn't mind but you legit set up the TV by logging into your Google account and activating on Google home lol! C'mon folks... Major design flaw... I rate this up there with the fact you can't even edit familiar face recognition on nest cameras... Forcing you to delete mis matches and hope it eventually learns to do better lol!

phillips was unable to help me. i would really love to hear if this is technically not possible to recognize a built in chromecast in atelevision for speaker groups

Hey there,

Sorry for the issues with this. I was able to investigate this further and found that built in Chromecasts are not compatible or supported with speaker groups at this point but we are looking to add this feature in the future.

Apologies for the hassle on this.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

Add this support for Google OS tv’s. I expected to connect my 4 speakers (google nest, in a group) to my TCL Google OS tv as advertised, but it does not allow you to pair your speaker group as a singular Bluetooth device in the home app. FIX THIS!!!!!!

Same issue. Sony Bravia A80J. Mint TV and now I can't add it to my existing speaker group. Very annoying. They need to sort this type of thing out asap! It's GoogleTV OS!!!

Plus they discontinued google audio Chromecast so I'm stuck!

Wait but if you find one online can you still use it in the speaker group?

a normal chromecast (video) or chromecast audio, will still work in a speaker group, just not the Android TVs with Chromecast built-in.

Considering all the responses to my thread. I think it's time to fix this!

Yeh just paid 1500 of a TV so I want to buy a Chromecast as well but at this point I might have to and then sell it if they ever fix it! eBay has Chromecast audio but they are overpriced.

Isn't any Tech YouTuber interested in that topic?

What?  This does not make any sense.  It is why I bought an Android TV. TCI...when will this be addressed?

Please do!!
Any progress?
It’s extremely frustrating that it can perform all other tasks but not this. Feels as if we’ve down-graded from our old chromecast!

we have a Sony Bravia with built in google.

Hi, is there an ETA for a resolution to this issue?

LOL

Funny that the built in Chromecast on my Sony Receiver will allow me to add it to a group but, the built in Chromecast on the Sony TV will not.   🤔
