Hey all,

Apologies for the confusion around the supported devices for speaker groups. We let the right teams know, and we can confirm that speakers with Chromecast built-in are supported. We've also updated the list of supported devices on our Help Center article "Create and manage speaker groups" to make it more specific than before.

Thanks for your feedback here in the community -- feel free to update the thread if you have any further questions!

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey folks,

Sorry for the delayed response. Please note that there are selected TVs that are compatible or can be added to the speakers group with your Google Home/Nest devices. You may want to check with your manufacturer if your TV is one of those devices.

For now, we can only guarantee that the devices listed on this link will work best when grouped together.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Muddi

What receiver do you have? Might be a fix for me and match the Sony TV. No chance these guys are fixing it. Probably down to Sony to add a fix and repackage. Seen so many posts on here and nothing happens.

It's an older model STRDN1080. Problem for me is I don't use it where my Sony TV is. It's in a completely different room so it doesn't solve my problem.

This is a feature that has been available since 2020. I have my TV paired in a speaker group called Cinema at my old house. I have a TCL Roku TV. I just tried adding to speaker group in a different home, it doesn't pop up.

Get a move on and fix please... Ridiculous design flaw... Get ENG support and land the diff.

Please add this function ASAP. It seems like basic functionality and the TV is often the centerpiece of a lot of homes.

How do I return/refund my new g.nest audio speakers & ref. this shocking state of Google misinformation?

Hi there,

Apologies for the confusion here, we were able to investigate further on this and we found this article that states that Speaker Groups are supported by built in Chromecast devices, but it seems like our users have had some different experiences when it comes to adding Android TV devices to their speaker group. I'm checking with the team to get further details on if your Android TV is supported or not and will follow up when there are more details.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

Hey Garret, Ye that was the main reason I chose to use a Chromecast Speaker like Harman Kardon for Multi Room. Because it said I could use my built in Chromecast for Speaker Groups...
Now that it's not working, I have to buy an expensive second hand Chromecast Audio or find a different solution.

Hopefully you come back to me soon!

Hi there,

Apologies for the late response here. Unfortunately we don't have any further information on this and no ETA on when we will. Apologies for the frustrations around this.

Best regards,

I'm having the same exact problem - everywhere on the internet says this has been possible since mid-2020, but it's not working. If I'm playing media to a group, from the Home app, I can tap "More devices," but tapping the check bubble either doesn't do anything or says "Something went wrong. Please try again." This is really disappointing. I just bought this TV and it's the only device now that's not in speaker groups with the rest of the house. It's brand new, and can't play to my speakers. Don't call it "Chromecast" built-in if the oldest actual Chromecast works better than this. What is going on?

Hi, could you update with the latest update on this. Almost all the android tv/Google TV users are waiting for this option which should be available from the beginning. No Idea why a company like Google takes this time to fix this

What an absolute waste of money and time. I have a built in Chromecast which isn't supported so I bought an Android tv box to fix this. NOW I SEE THE ONE PURPOSE OF THIS DEVICE IS LITERALLY DISABLED. Garrett get someone to fix this horse **bleep**. What a **bleep**ing waste of a 40 minute drive to buy this. now I've gotta drive to return it and what? BUY ANOTHER CHROMECAST FOR MY BUILT IN CHROMECAST TV BECAUSE ANDROID TV DOESNT WORK EITHER. bro just put a warning on these things that they aren't google compatible

Same problem for me. Read on the internet on multiple pages, that Nvidia shield and CC built in are the only compatible to add them to a speaker group.

And it is not working. Got a Xiaomi P1 50" with Built In Chromecast.

I too have the same issue.

Philips TV 55pus7334 (Android TV with Chromecast built in).

System Firmware: PTT1.181130.001

Cast firmware: 1.56.275391

Google home app on iOS

It is now March 19th 2022, and I just purchased a new TCL series 6 with google tv to replace a Highsense Android tv fully expecting this issue of not being able to add the TV to a speaker group to be resolved with a”Google TV” vs an “Android TV”. I fully updated the new TCL and that took about 30 minutes. And still, I cannot add the Google TV to a speaker group. This is really a let down. Please work to have this resolved. This makes for a very poor experience and is really discouraging to the google cast product line.

And here we are, mid 2022 and still not being able to add the Sony tv to a speaker group.

Very disappointed at Google ATM.

He's clearly a bot lol

Any news on a fix?

@GarrettDS  - do you have any updates? Unacceptable that this is listed as a feature, yet is broken for everyone and you somehow don't know what's going on and have no information for us. Heard of "deceptive advertising?"

I'm having the exact same issue and I can't understand why it's the case. Would really appreciate a fix for this as it's very clearly an android TV issue. I'm running the latest Android TV V10 build.

Hi I have also spent hours trying to figure out why I cannot connect to a speaker group now finding this thread makes me also wonder why would you advertise this when it is not able to connect to other Chrome cast items.

Please if you have a solution get back to us. I have a TCL Percee TV version 8

Any news from the devs? It s still unbelievable that it says it can do this with android tvs yet it doesnt work.

Can i refund my speaker for this? Its the only reason i bought a google compatible speaker.

Agreed. I need to know if this will be fixed or if I should return the TV and find another Google-less solution.

@GarrettDS  any updates? This is unacceptable.

Yes I would love to add our tv to our speaker group, It seems like a really simple thing to put together as my chromecast from 2018 some how can do it so why can't our 2020 TV. There may be a work around if you have a sound bar or something with bluetooth you can now connect google home devices like Google Nest Minis and Nest Displays to bluetooth devices, to output their sound to the device, it only works with music and stuff, like you can't have the assistant reply on the speaker from what i've tested. So that might work or like a Chromecast audio if they still make those.

Also having this issue. Been trawling through the internet to find a solution without any luck. Sony 9005 Bravia from 2020...

Having the same issue with TCL chromecast built in Tv.
Has anyone tried plugging in a chromecast dongle to a chromecast built in Tv? This could be a possible workaround for the time being until chromecast built in can be added to a speaker group.

Yes this works, I had a spare chrome cast when I upgraded the TV and it works but you have to switch back to the android TV screen and honestly if they can make a chrome cast support speaker groups why can’t they make an android TV.

Hi, May I ask please what you mean by "...you have to switch back to the android TV screen"? When do you have to switch back? Also, did you connect only the chromecast device as the only connection that the TV uses to access streaming services and Google Assistant, or, did you use an ethernet splitter from one router port (or two separate wires from two separate router ports) to connect one to the TV's ethernet port and the other to the chromecast device? Thanks

PS- The reason I'm asking is because I have a first generation chromecast device but was thinking that it might slow down the bitrate. I presently have a CAT 8 cable connected directly to the TV's ethernet port

Hi, woah that’s the long question but I’ll try to help my best, so my android TV had hdmi ports on it so if I connect a chrome cast to the TV via HDMI I the Tv shows up twice once as the chrome cast built into the TV and once as the external chrome cast, But the external chrome cast can be added to speaker groups and the internal Chromecast “built-in chromecast” can not  be able to be added to speaker groups. So all I’m doing is using the HDMI ports to connect the chrome cast nothing fancy, the same way you would connect a DVD player to the Tv and after your doing using it as a speaker group you would have to which form the HDMI port the chrome cast is connected to back to the android TV Home Screen. Hope that makes sense, it’s not a pretty work around but it works.

Thanks very much for your help. So the TV is connected to the internet by wifi only?

Hi yes both devices are connected by wifi. It just like how you upgrade and old tv with a chromecast, I just upgraded my new tv to support speaker groups by adding a 2018 chrome cast to the back.

Crazy, right? Thanks
