Hey all,

Apologies for the confusion around the supported devices for speaker groups. We let the right teams know, and we can confirm that speakers with Chromecast built-in are supported. We've also updated the list of supported devices on our Help Center article "Create and manage speaker groups" to make it more specific than before.

Thanks for your feedback here in the community -- feel free to update the thread if you have any further questions!

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey folks,

Sorry for the delayed response. Please note that there are selected TVs that are compatible or can be added to the speakers group with your Google Home/Nest devices. You may want to check with your manufacturer if your TV is one of those devices.

For now, we can only guarantee that the devices listed on this link will work best when grouped together.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Muddi

this is exactly why im saying this is a ridiculous feature. You get new expensive stuff but have to buy second hand gear to get it to work.

Bought the newest Philips 936 oled TV with android TV and built in Chromecast and I'm having the same problem that I can't add my TV to my speaker group ... 😞

same problem for me and my Bravia TV

So here's my theory: Google and Sonos are having a bit of a tiff in regards to speaker groups, and I reckon this is why this has been disabled on non Google hardware devices, which is why the Chromecast workaround still exists.

Because I can tell you for sure, this _used_ to work. Google have since disabled it. There is no real technical reason that this stopped working. This is not a bug. It's a feature.

Feel free to google Sonos Google lawsuit to find more details to support my theory.

Frankly this is genuinely despicable behaviour to disable these sorts of features for customers. If Google really wanted to be customer centric, they would reach a settlement with Sonos so that this feature would be available to their customers because this is really ridiculous now.

Anyway, happy new year everyone.

Well it appears that Google lost their lawsuit with Sonos so that's bad news. I think this just affects being able to individually change device audio separately in a speaker group though. My Nvidia shield (original) is now able to be added to a speaker group since an update (I'm not sure when that happened) so I'm hopeful that my Philips TV will receive an update to the same firmware and will work at some point in the future

I can confirm this was working at one time.  But I seem to remember you had to either subscribe to YouTube music or have a YouTube premium account for it to work.

I have YouTube premium but it does not work. I also have an Android TV Sony Bravia with Chromecast built-in but I cannot add this to a speaker group ... Might need to buy an external Chromecast (Google 4th cc with Google TV, Nvidia shield pro, CC-Ultra)

Same issue with Sony Bravia

Seen similar articles from today in several german news articles. So they need to come up with a workaround for the speaker group volume for TVs ... I don't get why google hasn't made a statement for us consumers yet. We are probably only a minority using that feature maybe

Same problem have two Sony 65X90h and 75x90j doesn't work on either of them I bought them because they were Google/ Android TV instead of another brand like Samsung or LG

That recent blog article might bring a fix for us soon:

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Upcoming-Speaker-Group-changes/ba-p/77811

Not sure how this link suggests it's going to fix our issue around speaker groups for televisions honestly. It just seems to refer to pure speakers rather than the android TVs with Chromecast.

I have the new T-Mobile hub dongle which is running android TV 11 and this have the same problem trying to add to a speaker group. No issues adding a standard Chromecast ultra or regular Chromecast. I mentioned as if you think getting a separate Chromecast with Google TV will help you, it may not. The T-Mobile hub may be a slightly different version of android OS, but it’s basically the same thing.

As a user with a TCL 6 Series with Chrome OS built in and at its current version- I can still confirm that speaker groups cannot be used as an audio output. I’ve reverted to using my Apply TV 4K with my sounder/subwoofer and two mini HomePods (set up as a speaker set) and I’m getting full Dolby Atmos 5.1 with this setup on Apple TV. My Google OS is now completely useless to me since it doesn’t support Dolby Atmos using any of their speaker groups.

Seems like Google will remove some features after this lawsuit... Couple of days ago, the twist between Sonos and Google regarding the speaker group options.

Same issue. My Sony Bravia A80J, which is a Google TV with built in Chromecast Ultra is not recognized as a valid device when I'm creating a speaker group.

I have the same problem and hope that I can add my TV to the group soon. Please update this thread when there is a solution

Just another with the same issue hoping for a solution.  Currently using the work around by connecting a Google TV Chromecast dongle to a Sony Bravia to connect the tv to a speaker group (oringal Chromecast doesn't support this).

I have also a Sony Bravia. Same issue. Which Chromecast version are you using?

U4EA

Another super annoyed Sony Bravia TV user here. Brand spanking new *GOOGLE* TV won't connect to my *GOOGLE* Home speaker group. Need I say more?

@GarrettDS any further update on this? Almost all the android tv/Google TV users are frustrated with this. No help from Google?

I'm having the same issue with a brand new 55OLED936 Philips tv.

We don't understand why built-in Chromecast isn't supported right now.

Please add speaker group support asap.

Yes just got my Philips oled 806 and shocked that i can't add it to a speaker group. Waiting for my Sony HT A7000 sound bar and really hope that that can be added to my Google home speaker groups

Sharp Aquos ,officially supported Android TV same problem

Same problem for Sony XBR-75X955G . One of the main reasons I bought a TV with chromecast was precisely to create speakers group. So far it seems that google does not provide us with a reasonable technical justification for this.

Hello Sony, we are waiting for a while now, do you have an ETA to support speakers groups? Bravia XR with integrated ChromeCast…. Thanks

For the problem above, this is clearly a bug and not a feature.  It shouldn’t show up if it’s not available or supported.  For the speaker group issue, like everyone is asking here, please add support.  We all spent over $1,000 on a TV for this reason.

Long: I’m having two related problems with my Sony Bravia X90J.

1 - unable to add it to my speaker group.

2 - shows up in the media section, but errors out when I try to select it along with other speakers and the true chromecast TV.

Please log a bug with your Eng team.

So from what I've discovered from tinkering with my chromecast built in devices is that the stock app for it without updates will show the tv in the speaker group but as soon as I try to play something the tv updates the app and it disappears. Its some sort of coding issue with the chromecast built in app. I'm no expert, but I love to tinker and that's what I've found out. I hope this helps someone in google fix the issue as this is a Google official app distributed to tv manufacturers.

Please fix this. I cannot fathom why this cannot be done. This feature was THE selling point for my new TCL 6 series. I have 4 google home speakers in the same room and cannot simply add the tv to the speaker group to enjoy music videos using YouTube music

Sony Bravia user here. Same issue. FIX THIS GOOGLE.
