Is there a way to remove news from display?

The last thing I want in my face in the morning is news. Can this be removed from the display?

Update

Two days ago on my display suddenly showed only a grey screen with centred letter G. Factory reset did not respond. Recovery mode simply returned me to the same gray screen.
