google nest is over heating to the point where it smells burnt!

Someone in my house went to "broadcast" a  message through out our house and I noticed that the google nest mini in my room didn't work so I went to pick it up and I noticed the it was VERY VERY hot, so unplugged my device and allowed it to cool down. Once it had cooled down a went to inspect it a little more and noticed that it had a strange burnt smell to it. I'm very concerned, just want to know what's wrong with my device and if its safe to pug it back in. Thank you.
