unlinked and then re-linked Apple Music in the settings of my Google Home app. And still, Google home device can't play music from Apple Music - was working for years, I have an apple music subscription, but Google home can't use service. just started happening this morning. tried re-booting home device. no dice.

Hi  Brothertyler,

This is not the experience we wanted you to have, let me help you. A few things: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made? What country are you located in? What is the error message when playing Apple Music?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Things to remember, to listen to Apple Music on your speaker or display, you must link your Google Account with your Apple Music account. Note: An Apple Music subscription is required to play music using speakers and displays.

Also, to isolate further, could you try other music services like YouTube or Spotify? Radio will also help narrow things. I would also suggest for you to reach out to Apple support for more information and options, click here.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Thanks for your response Dan,

The issue began about 10 days ago. No recent changes made. In USA.
I did a factory reset the other day to start over and then set my music link preferred to Apple Music.
Error message when I try to ask device to play an artist or song on Apple Music (or just asking for a song without mentioning Apple Music) it states "To play media, say something like "Play pop music" or "Play animal videos on Living Room TV". You can also use commands like "Pause" or "continue" or "Volume up"
When I switch to Youtube music or spotify it works fine.
btw, on all the other google mini's and google nest devices in the house I am able to ask for song to play on Apple Music and it works.  It's just this device that doesn't.
My wife also has an account on the device and we changed hers from Spotify (where it defaulted to on the reset) to Apple Music.  It works for her.
We have an Apple Subscription for family which inluces 5 of us.
Any ideas from here?
I reached out to Apple and from all the info above, they said since it's working for everyone but me on there, it's something ask Google about.

Hey there,

Thanks for the information. Since playing songs from Apple Music is working on all devices except for one device, let’s focus on that. For confirmation, what Nest speaker are we talking about? When you did the factory reset, was it the same steps as what you see in this link? What is the exact command you're giving and the error message? Are your speakers on a speaker group?

Let’s isolate further.

Regards,

Dan

It's the Google Nest Hub Max.  I can ask my mini speaker to play John Denver "hey Google, play John Denver" or "hey Google play Calypso by John Denver" and it plays it. When I ask the hub, it says, I don't know but here are the results I found. And it shows the singer and album info on the screen like a web search.  Then I try "hey Google, play Matthew and Sons by Cat Stevens" on the mini or the mesh speaker and it plays it. When I ask on the Hub Max it also plays it.   It just doesn't seem consistent at all. Using the same exact verbiage with different results.  So it seems to be responding better, just not consistently.

Hi Brothertyler,

Checking back to see if it’s now consistent when playing specific songs or artists with your Nest Hub Max? You may have also confirmed that the issue is not with your Apple Music but with your Nest Hub Max alone since it’s consistent on your Nest Mini. By the way is it a Nest Mini or a Google Home Mini?

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Dan

yes, it seems to be working correctly now. and consistently.  The one giving us so much grief was the Google Nest Home Max.  The mini speakers and Wifi speaker devices were all working fine with the music and media. thanks for following up with us.

Hi Brothertyler,

Awesome — glad to hear that your issue is fixed. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread in 24 hours unless I can help out with anything else.

Cheers,

Dan
