Hello everyone,

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you are both experiencing during the setup. Let’s further look into it. A few questions: is this the first time you’re setting up your Google Home Mini device? If not, were there any recent changes you made to your Google Home account? Are you using a regular Gmail account in the Google Home app? Do you have other Google Home devices successfully connected to the same Google Home account?

I’ll look forward to your responses.

Regards,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Here are my responses as follows:

Is this the first time you’re setting up your Google Home Mini device?
Yes, but I have a Sonos Move successfully setup already.

If not, were there any recent changes you made to your Google Home account?

Are you using a regular Gmail account in the Google Home app?
I am using my own private email address/domain setup with Google.

Do you have other Google Home devices successfully connected to the same Google Home account?
As mentioned, I have a Sonos Move setup along with 3rd party plugs to act as wifi switches for lights.

Hi bingo2385,

Thanks for the information. Google Workspace accounts have different structures and levels of security, so some features on Google (made) Home devices may or may not work. If you are the super administrator of your email, check out how to Link a Google Workspace account to the Google Home app. If it still didn’t work, try to use a regular Gmail account and see if Google Home Mini will be setup successfully.

Best,
Alex

Hi Alex

Thank you for the reply.

I'm not sure where you are getting the information that I am trying to setup the Mini with a workspace account?

Strangely noticed the voice on my Sonos Move has now changed. I didn't request that change.

Hi there,

Apologies. You mentioned you are using your own private email/domain for the Google Home setup—we called it Workspace emails. Even so, private domain emails may or may not work with Google Home devices. You can try the suggested configuration from the article provided above, or try using a regular Gmail account and let us know how it goes.

Kind regards,
Alex

Hello Alex,

OK, I checked my account "Activity Controls" and can see that Web & App Activity was already "On" and Subsettings > Include Chrome history and activity from sites, apps, and devices that use Google services is already checked.

The Google Home app on my iPhone can already see the Nest Mini as a "Local Device" in the app, at the bottom, and gives the option to "Link Device".  Pressing and holding on this device opens a window where i can adjust the unit volume.  Three dots at the top right open another window that offers me the option to Link Google Account.

I am not sure I quite understand why I now need to create a new Gmail account to simply add a Google Nest Mini to my account.

This is a bit disappointing to be honest.

Hello bingo2385,

Chiming in, we know how excited you are to use your Nest Mini. Please note that the Google Home and Nest speakers or displays will work best when using a Gmail account. This is because Gmail accounts do not have the additional layer of security that is typically found on private domain emails.

Cheers,

Muddi
