"No Default" music or video services

Last year, I had multiple options for music and video services. I had the ability to use Spotify, Youtube Music, and Apple Music. I was using Apple Music for my default music service.

This year, however, Google Assistant will say "Your Apple Music account needs to be linked first. You can do that in the Google Home app." I go to the app, and suddenly there is NO option for any services, even though I had previously had multiple. It just says No Default. Similar for the video services too.

I am located in Australia, using English as the language. I have changed no settings, and it has been available in the past for me, so unless they've stripped Australia of the ability to stream music, I don't know what's going on.

Hi folks,

I'm really sorry that you are having this type of issue when trying to reproduce some music through the assistant .

It sounds like there might be a glitch with the way the Google Home app is interacting with your Apple Music account. Now that you already uninstall and reinstall the app here are a few steps you can try to fix it:

  1. Relink Apple Music: Even though you've reinstalled the app, try unlinking and then relinking your Apple Music account within the Google Home app. This can sometimes re-establish a clean connection.

Here's how to relink:

  • Open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
  • Tap "Settings."
  • Tap "Music."
  • Find "Apple Music" and tap "Unlink."
  • Now, tap "Link Account" and follow the on-screen instructions to sign in with your Apple ID.
  1. Set Apple Music as Default: After relinking, look for the option to set Apple Music as your default music service. This way, whenever you ask Google Home to play music, it will prioritize Apple Music.

    • In the Google Home app's "Music" settings, look for the option for "Default music provider." then choose Apple Music.

Check those steps and please let us know in this post how it went.

All the best,

Josh

Hi braddiggory,

Oh no! Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app? Also, is English Australia set as your language on both your phone’s settings and Google Assistant settings? Do you have another setup device you can use to check if it exhibits the same issue?

Regards,
Alex

I’m in Australia with the same issue. I’ve deleted Spotify and google home and re-installed but no music services are showing up under ‘music’.

my google account setting is English (Australia) - please advise!!

FYI I managed to fix it by setting my language in the Google Home app to just “English” and not English UK etc. Stupid.

That’s so weird I can’t not select English without selecting a region - I can’t figure out how to attach a photo but I have to pick a region before it’ll allow me to save the preference.

Any other updates on this issue??  I have the same exact problem and I’m located in the US.  I told it to play an album from my Apple Music, it announced that it was, but then never played anything.  After going into the Google Home app, I found I too have “No Default” and no way to add any.

And yes, I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app already.
