I’m having the same problem. When I ask any of my Googles to play a specific song/artist/playlist, it states it will play it on Apple Music, yet nothing happens. This has been an issue since Monday, May 22 on all of the Hubs and Minis in my house.

It plays music fine when I ask it to play an artist on Pandora.  It also will play music from Apple Music if I ask it to play music in general, nothing specific. But when I ask for anything specific, it says it will play on Apple Music and then doesn’t.

This is insanely frustrating and was thinking it may be something with my internet until I saw this post.

Hi folks,

@MarylandJim, @jadeunicorn, this is not the experience we want you to have, let me help you. A few questions: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Was it working before and were there any recent changes?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Also, to listen to Apple Music on a speaker or display, you must link their Google account with your Apple Music account. Note: An Apple Music subscription is required to play music with Google Nest and Home devices.

Furthermore:

  • Make sure your music provider accounts are linked to your speaker or display.
  • If you're not getting the music you expect, be more specific with your request.
    • Add "...by [Artist]" to your request. (Example: "Hey Google, play a song by Sia.")
    • Add "... album, playlists, song" to your request. (Example: "Hey Google, play my morning rock playlist.")
  • If you want to listen to music that's not from your default service, add "...on [music service]" to your request.

Give them a try and let us know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

It had worked fine for me before May 22, though I hadn't tried for at least a week before that, I think. But otherwise it worked fine for well over a year.

I have 3 Google Nest Displays and 3 Google Nest Minis - it's an issue on all of them.

I even unlinked and relinked my Apple Music account. I did find out I can however tell Google Assistant on my phone to play the music on the specific Display/Mini, and it will then do it. It just doesn't do it when directly asking the Display/Mini.

And I did the whole unplug everything, including the router/modem before I initially replied to this post, as I thought it was an internet issue at first (and that's always my go to for trying to fix internet issues). But it still didn't work, which is why I came to the forums to see if anyone else had the same issue.

Oddly, it does work once in a while. Like my daughter got it going this past Monday or Tuesday morning. I told her to stop the music for a bit while she got ready, and then when she tried to play it again a few minutes later it wasn't working again. It's just strange. And highly inconvenient if I have to use my phone to play the songs/playlists on my Displays/Minis.

So the majority of the time, I'm still stuck with Google saying it will play the requested song on Apple Music, but then it proceeds to do nothing.

Hey jadeunicorn,

Chiming in, how far are your Nest Hub and Home speakers from your router? Also, have you tried connecting one of your speakers to a different network to see if it has the same behavior?

Cheers,

Muddi

One of my Displays is like 5 feet from my router (the main Display I use). I don't have any other networks around I could test it on, unfortunately.

Hello jadeunicorn,

To confirm, are you able to play music from a different music provider like YouTube Music or Spotify? Also, could you check if you can listen to any radio stations from TuneIn?

Cheers,

Muddi

I can play music fine from Pandora. I've never used TuneIn before.

Hey jadeunicorn,

Could you try these commands: "Hey Google, play music on Apple music." Also, please let us know the firmware version of your speakers.

Cheers,

Muddi

I've already said that it will play music on Apple Music if I just ask it to play music in general, no specific artist/song/playlist.

System Firmware: 10.20221207.2.109

Cast Firmware: 1.68.353511

Hi jadeunicorn,

We just want to check if you're done filling out the form posted? Keep us posted.

Best,

I already did the feedback form via the Google Home app before I ever posted here. I really don't have time to fill out another form.

It's working sporadically now at least.
