AAC 7.1 Passthrough Not Working (Plex on Chromecast with Google TV > Samsung S90C > Samsung Q990C)

Hello!

I am having troubles passing though AAC 7.1 audio to my Samsung Q990C 11.1.4ch soundbar. I have "Passthrough: HDMI" on for PLEX, "Auto" sound output on Chromecast with Google TV, audio output set to passthrough on Samsung S90C TV, and the Q990C soundbar connected via eARC.

I can play Dolby Atmos TrueHD 7.1 just fine, but somewhere my AAC audio is converted to STEREO PCM.

I tried searching Reddit and Google for about an hour and couldn't figure it out.

Currently my only solution is to have the Chromecast plugged into the actual soundbar to get the AAC 7.1 to go to MULTI CHANNEL PCM. When it's plugged into my Samsung TV, it defaults back to stereo PCM.

Hi HAMCORE,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. Based on your description, it seems that the conversion to stereo PCM happens from the Samsung S90C OLED Smart TV to the Samsung Q990C Q-series 11.1.4 ch Wireless Dolby ATMOS Soundbar. The audio plays in AAC 7.1 multichannel PCM when your Chromecast device is directly connected to the soundbar, bypassing the TV. Kindly check the TV settings to see if there’s some kind of rendering for audio output. You may also check with the Samsung Members Community to see if there are other users who may have figured it out.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Kimy
