Can't get live tv on Chromecast with Google TV HD

I've just acquired the HD version for use with an older tv. I've set it up and am getting some of the streaming channels I want (BBC iplayer, YouTube etc) but when I try to add more there is very limited choice. I especially want to be able to view live tv as the aerial connected has issue, so the Chromecast would be ideal. When I find a live tv app and click on download zilch happens. Why? How can I get live tv? Help.

Thank you for your help. I won't bother answering the questions above because an update to the Chromecast did the trick. I found the settings via the tv screen and looked for Chromecast update. It took ages, presumably because it had lots to do being the older version for HD and because my broadband is not ultra fast.  I recommend anyone missing apps do this as a first step. Thanks folks.

Hi @ATthenewbie,

Thank you very much for contacting this community! I understand that you recently bought the HD version to use on an old television. This setup seems to have resulted in a very limited selection that prevents you from integrating more content, particularly preventing you from watching live television, since downloading the app didn't resolve the issue. Don't worry, I'm here to help you!

  • When did the issue first start?
  • What is the firmware version of your Chromecast? You can use this Google Help Center article as a reference: Find your device’s firmware version.
  • What is the make and model of your TV set?
  • How far from the router is your Chromecast?
  • Are you using an Android or iPhone to manage your Chromecast?
  • Is your smartphone's operating system updated?
  • Are you using the latest version of the Google Home app?
  • What country are you located in?
  • Are you getting any error messages when you try to add your favorite apps like BBC iPlayer, YouTube, etc?

In the meantime, I recommend you trying the following troubleshooting step:

Please reply with the requested information so we can continue troubleshooting and find a solution.
