Chromecast - YouTube videos freezing, only when I’m signed in to google account

Ever since YouTube released a big update to their iOS app last week, I have been unable to successfully cast to my tv using Chromecast.  The video plays for about 2-3 seconds (extremely blurry) and then freezes, or loads indefinitely. My other apps (Netflix, HBO Max) still currently work fine using Chromecast. Also, casting YouTube *does* work when I’m signed out of my Google/Youtube account. So something about being signed in is causing the videos to freeze when casting. I’ve already tried rebooting the Chromecast (by both unplugging it and rebooting from the Google Home app), I deleted and reinstalled the YouTube app (which wiped all of my downloaded videos…), I’ve restarted my iPhone, and my apps are all completely up to date. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Same issue but on Android. Same exact behavioir: low res for 2-3 seconds, then freezes and never recovers. It responds when I tap Stop Casting though, so the app isn't frozen - just the stream.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. I’m sorry for the trouble, and this is not the experience that we wanted you to have. Some users managed to correct it by logging in to different accounts. If all other apps are working fine, then this may be isolated to YouTube. I suggest you give our friends at the YouTube Help Community a shout. Other users may have answers for this already. Let us know if you still have questions about your Chromecast device.

Thanks,

Kimy

Thank you for the reply. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems that posting on the YouTube Community Help site is disabled at the moment? So I’m unable to repost my question in the link you provided. I also couldn’t find a thread on there about this problem. I tried searching for it and I looked through the recent threads of common issues.  I was hoping that since YouTube and Chromecast are both under the Google umbrella that I could find help right here. It looks like I’m not the only one experiencing this issue, given the other comments here on my post. It feels like I’m truly stuck with this problem at the moment and there is no way to receive any help about it. Casting YouTube on my TV was a several-times-a-day activity for me and now I can’t do it at all. So if you could please help us in some other way than by just linking to a different and unusable web page (again, the YouTube help site doesn’t allow posts right now), I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Thank you for info on the next steps. In the past week, the issue has not occurred, so it seems like a fix was issued somewhere.

Hi Kimy

There is no way to contact the support team following your links, just a FAQ-type webpage and a closed community. Their explanation of how to get help as a user does not include any way of contacting the team anymore.

Hi Mads_Brick,

I tried the link myself and reached the part where it gave me options for a live chat or email support. It used to have a callback option; I’m not sure if it’s limited to premium subscribers or if there may just be a time frame. Just put in the details and choose the appropriate options. Type it in there, like how you post things in here, a few clicks, and there you go.

Let us know if you still have issues with your Chromecast device.

Regards,

Kimy

I'm dealing with the same issue. The last couple weeks maybe. If I just go to the menu on my Samsung TV it works totally fine. Casting any other app is totally fine. Just the YouTube app that doesn't want to work.

Same issues here.  And I've only just figured out it was account related after spending hours trying lots of different things.  I'd prefer to keep using my old YouTube account for saved videos and revisiting watched videos

Hello there,

Thanks for the reply. Usually, if the thread that you’re reading has a lock icon, you won’t be able to post on it anymore. If it would be challenging to post a thread, I suggest you reach out to their support team here at YouTube Help.

Let us know if you have other concerns related to your Chromecast device.

Sincerely,

Kimy

So the conclusion is that the only youtube help site for this has been closed for reporting?

Can we keep this thread up, so people can post if they manage to find a way to get through to YouTube somehow?

So far we only know that it seems to be account specific.
