Chromecast offline in Google Home .. but it’s not

Samconradsen

I have a CCwGTV (HD) which suddenly a few days ago stopped working with CEC. I tried every possible solution I could find online, including resetting to Factory Settings and setting the Chromecast up as new again, which did solve the CEC problem, but then gave me a completely new issue 😒

After setting it up, connecting to WiFi, everything running smooth on my tv, being able to turn on/off the TV via the Chromecast using voice commands to my Google Nest speakers, etc. it still keeps saying the device is offline in the Google Home app and I am not able to cast to the chromecast from any app, as it just doesn’t show up as a possible device (due to it being offline, even through it is clearly not?)

- My phone and the chromecast is on the same WiFi, which has great connection and is fairly close to both devices. I’ve tried turning WiFi off on both chromecast and phone to connect again, also tried rebooting the router, but that made no difference.

- If I remove the chromecast from the room it is in, in the Google Home app, it’ll have me sign into my Google Account again on the tv, so they’re obviously connected somehow.

- I’ve tried resetting the Chromecast to factory settings and setting up as new again three times now, but it makes no difference.

- I’ve tried unplugging everything from power, tv, etc. and plug it back in after a while, but it makes no difference.

- There’s nothing else plugged into the tv or any of the HDMI ports.

- I’ve checked for updates on the router, chromecast and remote, but everything is up to date.

Hi Samconradsen,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having difficulties casting to your Chromecast because it appears offline in the Google Home app. No worries; I'm here to help!

I see that you have taken some troubleshooting steps before reaching out. I'd like to know some information before we get started. Can you please tell me what color of LED light you can see on your Chromecast? Also, here are some steps or recommendations you can follow:

  • Check if the Chromecast device is within 20 feet of the mobile device and the Wi-Fi router.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app.
  • Restart your phone.

I hope this helps! If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Light on the Chromecast in my bedroom is white ️ Same as the one in my livingroom, which works just fine. (same model, bought at the same time and is just about 3-3,5 meters from the chromecast not working in my bedroom).

- The chromecast is just 2-2,5 meters from the wifi router and even closer to my phone when using the tv.

- I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Home app, with no change.

- I’ve tried restarting my phone, with no change.

Hi Samconradsen,

Thanks for your reply and for trying all the steps I sent!

I'm so sorry to hear that the steps didn't work. Let’s try these additional troubleshooting steps:

  • If you have multiple Wi-Fi networks, ensure both your mobile device and Chromecast are connected to the same network.
  • Use another device to verify if the Chromecast is offline. You can also try re-pairing the Chromecast to isolate any device-specific connection error between the Chromecast and your mobile device.
  • Test the Chromecast on a different Wi-Fi or guest network.
  • Connect the Chromecast to a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Keep me posted about how it goes! If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

- I only have one WiFi  and both chromecast and mobile is connected to the same. Again, there’s also no problem with the other chromecast or any other of my 17 google/google home compatible devices.

- I’ve reset and repaired the chromecast multiple times and it keeps appearing as ‘offline’ in the google home app, but it is in fact not offline. I can use it just fine on the tv as ‘google tv’ and stream from any app I have on there, I just can’t use the chromecast part.

- I’ve tried testing by using my phone’s 5G as a hotspot and it made no difference.
