Dolby Vision Stuck After Exiting Exo/Media3 apps – Regression on Android 14

Hi,

I’m experiencing a display issue on my Chromecast with Google TV (4K) device since updating to Android 14.

Whenever I play Dolby Vision content in Exo/Media3(ex stremio, jellyfin) then exit back to the home screen, the system remains stuck in Dolby Vision mode, instead of switching back to SDR as expected. This causes the entire UI to appear washed out, overly dark, and improperly calibrated.

I have “Match content dynamic range” enabled, and this behavior worked correctly on Android 12, where the system would return to SDR after playback. This issue only began after the Android 14 update — so it’s clearly a regression introduced in the latest system version.

Please note:

 This is not related to my internet connection, router, or display hardware — it’s a firmware-level video output bug reproducible across multiple displays and setups.

I’d appreciate it if we could avoid generic troubleshooting questions that aren’t relevant to this issue.

Manually switching the resolution to SDR resolves it temporarily, but obviously that shouldn’t be necessary.

Please let me know if this is a known issue or if a fix is planned.

I'm currently on firmware version UTTC.241218.008.H1.13427172 (Chromecast with Google TV 4K).
Ever since the Android 14 update (starting from UTTC.241218.004), I've been experiencing an issue where Dolby Vision remains active after playback ends.
The issue is reproducible with multiple apps (e.g., Jellyfin, Netflix) and results in the system staying locked in Dolby Vision output even after exiting the video.
The TV continues to indicate Dolby Vision input, and the system doesn't revert back to SDR as expected.
This problem did not exist on Android 12 — HDMI output mode was reset properly after DV content.

Importantly:

- Match frame rate is enabled 

- Match content dynamic range is enabled 

- No issues with plan HDR

Please escalate this as a regression in HDMI/EDID handling after DV playback in Android TV 14.

Based on your description, this would not be an ExoPlayer issue as ExoPlayer does not set the Display into Dolby/SDR mode. That might be an issue with the Chromecast or your TV. I'd definitely suggest logging feedback with those devices for this issue.

I've also tested on the other TV the same issue - So the issue with Chromecast with Google TV 4K  - What else I need to provide to make you fix the issuse?

I'm also having the issue with other devices such as the Google TV Streamer and the  Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd generation, so it could be a general bug on the Android 14 master build.

Was able to replicate the issue on Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd - so probably it is the issue with ATV14 across multiple devices

Also having such issue on  Chromecast with Google TV (4K) connected to Sony TV.
DV mode stuck after watching DV content on media3/exo-based apps (was using Jellyfin). In order to reset it, I have to play sdr video, but in case I don't do it everything gets stuck in DV, menus other apps .
Please fix it.
