Google TV Streamer - no audio on wakeup until the Home key is pressed

We recently replaced our Chromecast 4K with the Streamer. Since then, when the Streamer powers on (or wakes up from sleep), there is no sound. Once we press the Home key, then we hear sound.

It is connected to an LG TV and LG Sound Bar. Prior to this, no sound issues with the Chromecast. It happens consistently now with the Streamer. The Shut-Off Timer is set to 1 hour.

Please advise.

Hi lydiathem,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry that you're having troubles with the Google TV Streamer (4K) with your audio receiver. I understand how frustrating this can be. I'm here to help.

Before I begin, I need to ask a few questions for further assistance:

  • Are there other devices connected to the soundbar or AV receiver?

  • What kind of cables are you using (i.e., eARC or ARC, optical audio cable)?

  • What app are you using when the issue occurs? Does the issue happen only on a specific app, or is it happening on all the apps as well?

  • Is the Google TV Streamer connected through Wi-Fi or ethernet?

Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Kevin

No other devices.

eARC

All/any app. It's only when the Streamer wakes up. There is no sound at all.

  • Is the Google TV Streamer connected through Wi-Fi or ethernet?

Ethernet.

I used to have a Google Chromecast 4K (same setup) and it did not have any sound problems.

The LG TV model is OLED65C2PUA.

The LG Soundbar model is S80QY.

Hi Lydiathem,

Thank you for your response. Thanks for the information provided. Let's work together for a solution.

Looks like there could be an issue with the CEC feature. HDMI-CEC allows devices connected via HDMI to control each other. While this can be convenient, it sometimes causes unexpected behavior.

Unfortunately, you can't directly disable CEC from the Google TV Streamer itself. However, you can usually disable it on your TV or receiver. To do this:

  • Check your TV's settings: Look for options related to HDMI-CEC (e.g., Anynet+, Bravia Sync, Simplink).
  • Check your receiver's settings: If you're using an AV receiver, check its manual or settings menu for HDMI-CEC options.

If you're unsure how to disable CEC on your devices, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your TV or receiver for assistance.

I hope this information helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Kevin

Issue is resolved. WebOS (on LG TVs) was updated and now sound works properly.
