I brought my Chromecast, but forgot the remote. Different wifi network. I have been through many posts saying I can use either Google Home or Google TV to re-set it up.
I have factory reset the Chromecast. On the tv, it says start pairing, with the picture of the remote. There is no qr code to scan. Home, tv, and bluetooth all do not see the Chromecast like this.
I can tap the button on the Chromecast and the screen switches to searching for accessories. At this point, now all 3 can see the Chromecast. When I click on the Chromecast to pair, the phone get the pairing popup with the code displayed on the tv. I can click on pair on the phone. But the tv/Chromecast shows a Pair/Cancel choice. I cannot select or click on pair on the Chromecast/tv, so I appear to be dead in the water without the remote.
Does anyone know how to either get past the Start Pairing screen to a qr code, or have it not require a click on pair that I can't click on?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

If you've reset it, there's no way to set it up again without a physical remote. The only way to solve this would be to buy a replacement remote from the Google Store.

Hey JeffWard,
I just wanted to check, do you have additional concerns or questions about your device?

Nope. I'm dead in the water with a useless product. Nothing can be done. Yet another bad piece of hardware from Google that might as well be a brick doorstop.

You can fix this but need the remote the device comes with unfortunately. As I mentioned, you can buy a replacement remote from the Google Store if you cannot find the one your device came with.

No. They made a bad product that requires the physical remote to be present to setup. There is absolutely no need for this, but they did it anyway. It's just bad coding. Once you have the remote, you can pair the Chromecast with your phone without needing to click on pair through the Chromecast. Proving it is not needed. But yet they force it on setup. Making the Chromecast a brick. Great job Google!

Oh, and let's also not forget that the documentation is so bad, that it had me factory reset the Chromecast instead of telling me to try to pair it with Google home first. It actually says you can set it up without the remote. You only find out you can't after you have factory reset.
