My Laptop connected to same WIFI than Chromcast after trying everything doesn't recognize even that there is a device to cast to. My chromcast it's new! I did the set up with the app. I can cast from my Iphone (have tried only youtube which works well so far). In case, my laptop is an Acer Aspire V with Windows 10.
