Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Same here, from Indonesia. 😓😭

J'ai acheté un Mi TV Stick (FHD) et ça fonctionne. Mon problème est réglé.

xactly the same here in UK, pretty shoddy if you ask me, any updates from Google itself, or is that too much to hope for?

Canada. Gen2. Won’t connect even after factory reset

my second generation Chromecast was dead as well, from Spain

Same here. 🇸🇪

Ours also happened, same time frame. Hoping to follow this for a fix!

Same here.🇸🇪

The issue is that your CC devices all have a signed certificate with 2 CA which one of them is an intermediary one with a validity from March 9th 2015 to March 9th 2025 ... Google will need to provide a firmware update with renewed certificates or provide the same certificates to all CC devices .  I'm not sure what else they can do given the certificate expired and it's needed to insure the signed certificate (the CC device cert itself) is valid.   I can't say it was definitely planned like that , I think it's mostly something people overlook and create production downtime .

Same here, stopped working yesterday

I cannot post the link but there's a post on Reddit on the r/Chromecast page

Global issue.

Having the same issue. Started a Factory Reset, and when I try the set up, I get the "Failed to Authenticate" notice with navigation to the Troubleshoot option for a resolution which is no help what so ever.

Wonder when this will be resolved and if we'll recieve some form of compensation for the inconvenience caused. 🤔

Hola, mí Chromecast 2, no funciona. Alguien sabe si Google corrió este problema? Gracias.

Me pasa lo mismo desde ayer.

You're all drowning the information contained in the posts of this forum with "I'm affected as well" when the post just before is stating:

An intermediary SSL Certificate expired on you CC device.  Google needs to either renew that certificate and resign all CC SSL certificates with the new intermediary SSL Certificate or come up with another solution that would be quicker to deploy on those millions of devices.

If you factory resetted your CC, just set the date of your phone to March 7th 2025 and add it back so it can communicate with the CC update server when a fix is available.

Well this is the response from Google that I received:

Hi There! Thank you for reaching out.

Unable to authenticate error / firmware error when trying to reboot and or connect to device from HOME app

Same issue in Argentina

I really hope this is not the end of my Chromecast Audios.  I have 2 I use(d) every day, another occasionally, and used multi room with these along with my Home Max and Home devices.

If this is the end of CCAs, are there any recommendations of similar devices that support the Google Home platform and will allow casting audio to device groups?

Se sabe cuanto puede demorar una solución????

So, is this happening all over the world, yet google didn’t confirm anything. Hello… It’s been 2 days…

I have the same issue. Since yesterday four of our chromecast devices stopped working.

Google please update asap

Same.

Just came home from work yest and device has stopped working.

Same problem as everyone here.

Any updates on this issue pls? Still unable to connect

Mismo problema desde Buenos Aires, Argentina. Espero que den noticias cuando lo van a solucionar y cuando lo solucionen

Same here, exactly at march 10, 00.05 am. I have the same issue. Whats should we do

Such critical information should have been tested before mass deployment. impacting at global level without prior information is not good .. It would be good if google give some resolution timelines.. it is super frustrating

Same issue with chromecast audio, all 3 pucks in use in my Chicago area home.  Please fix!

I'm having the same issue, please fix it Google!

I’m having the same issues

Called Google and apparently working on the glitch If you wait 24 to 48 hrs and retry, they say the issue will be fixed

Same issue with me in New Hampshire. WTF!

If anyone gets solution to this problem and able to restart chrome cast streaming, kindly let us know, thanks

ESTO ESTAN RESPONDIENDO DESDE GOOGLE.
