Hey folks,
If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.
If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Ok I've revisited this forum today after finding the notification in spam. Before I'd come to the forum I'd already tried a hard reset that did not re authenticate. I've since removed the Chromecast from my TV will reinstall in a few days and hopefully can access updates when they're available.
Please advise when they're available.

Since my Chromecast started to work yesterday and it was connected to the TV, it seems the updates are in process of being sent out. So, I suggest you connect and power-on your Chromecast.

Same i can't even add mine back ( I get to last step & it acts like it's working, but then fails due to incorrect wifi password-WHICH IS ACCURATE & NOT WRONG ). I know it's bc of these issues & bc I factory reset both Chromecasts, but it's very frustrating bc I tried the workaround (changing phone date manually, it let me get to the last step on both, but then fails). If they don't find a fix for those of us in this situation, after a week of not being able to use, I'll be buying something else. I'll never buy a Google product again after this experience, unless they A.) Replace my Chromecasts at no charge, or B.) Compensate me from too many hours lost & time wasted. Which I'm sure GOOGLE will not do either of these. I'm very disappointed overall with how Google has handled all of this. Its 2025 not 1995.

The solution for those who reset their device Reset your phone date to March 1st Go to Google Home, set up your device, and reconnect it to the Wi-Fi network. It will update and return to work I tried it and it worked

I do all of this but the final step connected to wifi and a problem appear : Chromecast is maybe configured but impossible to comunicate with him from your iPhone.... so boring !!!

Set date on phone to 8th March 25 and went through Home add device.
After many attempts it connected and I was able to connect to WiFi. It was very much trial and error - it now seems to work 🙏🏼

Min Chromecast hoppade igång igår (fredag) kväll utan att jag gjort något själv. Den satt kvar i TVn med ström på, och jag har INTE gjort någon fabriks-reset. Tydligen är det något som skickas ut (eller hämtas ner) som gör att det hoppar igång.

If your device is connected to the Internet, it will auto-resolve the issue with the next automatic firmware update. Google has heard its users and rolled a firmware update that fixes the problem!

Chromecasts are still great devices and they are well worth at least another decade of lease of life. Keep up the support to the devices, they are not obsolete!

We use chromecast in our business and had too buy a substitute . When I went too the store they told me it was because you stopped making chromecast products. Now I got a firestick cost me 100$ and 2 days latter google sends a notice that they have issues with chromecast. Bad support . You guys cost me 100$ for nothing I'm really pissed I hope a law suit is started.

Entra a Home y comienza la actualización automática, solo deja que termine dura como 10 minutos
