Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

I uninstalled and reloaded from Google play to get v6! didn't work on my phone but did on my tablet!¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i had done the factory reset and now tried setting up my chromecast2nd gen, still same issues as before. Anyone was successful? 

You have to set back the date of your mobile device. I had also to restart it. Then open the app and look for the chromecast to set it up. It will connect to your wifi, but you cant select it. Set the real date. Wait a few hours and try again. Worked in my 3 chromecasts.

Hej! Jag har gjort fabriksåterställning och inte lyckats få igång Chromecast. Har uppdaterat Google Home appen men det hjälpte inte. Testade nu att radera google home appen ladda ner den igen och då lyckades jag, ny mjukvara laddades laddades ner till Chormecast och allt fungerar nu igen. 😃

Its not fixed... It still doesnt working

try to delete the Google Home app and download it agin, it did work for me.

I did that to , but did not work  

 Delete Google Home. Re-download Google Home. Do a factory reset on the Chromecast. Add Chromecast as a new device using Google Home.  -Cheers!

I manage to reinstall my chromecast and perform the update mentioned as a solution by Google. So all good now

Eu fui um dos que fez a redefinição de fábrica, nisso fiz o seguinte;

1° fiz o procedimento normal de conectar, após identificar ele pede para confirmar o código na tela, nisso ao tentar ele da o erro;

2° eu não fechei o app google home, fui até as configurações de data, e mudei para ela para 01/03/2025

3° voltei no app do google e pedi para localizar novamente, ele pediu nisso qual wifi queria, selecionei o meu e coloquei a senha manualmente,  após isso ele conectou e atualizou sozinho, reiniciou acho que 2x e pronto.

So now my Home App won't acknowledge that it has permission to look for nearby devices. So I can't even try and connect to my Chromecast. Even though I've un-installed and reinstalled the app. That's the only way I could potentially get the updates, because there is no new update for the home app. Nz. What's going on? So frustrating.

Bisogna modificare la data del telefono al sei Marzo 2025 poi configurare Chromecast dall'app home  una volta finito di aggiornarsi  impostare ancora la data automatica del telefono .

Para os falantes de português, mude pra uma data anterior ao erro ( eu usei 6 de fevereiro) faça a configuração e somente apos a atualização e finalização da configuração vc retorna pra data atual. Aqui voltou a funcionar!

Devi andare impostazioni ora e data del telefono e modificare la data a prima del sei Marzo poi una volta configurato Chromecast dall'app lascialo aggiornare , imposta ancora la data attuale del telefono oppure metti automatica dalla rete .

Altera a data do seu celular pro dia 1 de março e faz a configuração do Chrome cast de novo que vai funcionar...quando terminar vc coloca a data certa no celular novamente

Your fix worked!  I had done factory reset but updating Google home fixed that problem.
