This is no longer an “emerging” issue. It “emerged” on Sunday, which is two whole days ago. The lack of updates about when a fix will be released is disgraceful. This will become a textbook example of how NOT to manage a major outage, to be taught in university courses in years to come. How about giving us a status update at least once per day on how the fix is coming along?

I have three Chromecast 3rd GENERATION installed in my house and all of them stopped working on March 09, 2025. Is necessary Google to be aware that the Chromecast failure is not only with 2nd Generation devices.

A factory reset is going to be an incredibly common "go to" action for most users I imagine.

Where will you share the instructions, how to set our devices back, if factory reset already have been made?

A tad optimistic to expect that users wouldn't have made a factory reset - It has been the way to go for years, when troubleshooting to reset everything from router to casting device 🙃

Nice that there finally are some outgoing respons, that is appreciated - aviating further updates.

Kind regards

My Chromecast 1st gen device seems to have had the exact same issue based on what i have read on these forums.

Followed the standard device reset method just to see i then could not get it rejoined to google home at all, until viewing the forums and setting my mobile device back then performing the join, once joined again it is unable to establish the connection with the home app/account base and therefore does not allow casting or pull down wallpapers from your account. Currently the device is purely a tool to display google specific wallpapers and the time.

What kind of turnaround time are we looking at with regards to the issues being experienced across all chromecast devices?

Excellent instructions for a workaround that will restore Gen2 casting from Android devices, even for those who have already done a factory reset. Worked for me. Good enough, until Google issues a proper security certificate fix.

It would have been great to have a heads-up BEFORE the glitch happened. Too late for a "Do not factory reset your device"

Agreed

Is there any update on when this will be fixed? Like many people - I won't be buying another Google product to replace it

never more at my life, any google product. Like bandits, they entered at my home silently, stilled my equipment and left me alone

Esperemos que Google no vaya a tener la genial idea de sacar al mercado, en un futuro no muy lejano, robots androides autónomos..... Ya que al paso que vamos, las películas apocalípticas, que hemos visto se volverán una realidad

I have done the factory reset on my Google Chromecast. What do i have to do now? Please help me.

If you factory reset your Chromecast, you can fix it this way. Manually change the date, on the device you use Google Home, to March 8 or earlier, and you can set up your Chromecast.  Then change the date on your device back to what it should be. You won't be able to use your Chromecast, but it won't be factory reset anymore.

You mean change the date on the phone, if thats the device you use Google Home on?

tbuz

Yes, such as your phone

Set your phone to march 8, you can get it back on the wifi but you can’t stream. We all have to wait till google comes with a update

I can’t cast to my TV anymore. It was working fine until the day before yesterday, but now my phone says that my Chromecast (2nd Gen) has an untrusted firmware. How can I fix this quickly?

it is a defect at google server, do not do anything except noise against google

When it first started on 9th of March I did press the reset button on my Chromecast will it not connect to my tablet and my phone anymore?

A bit late with the "do not reset" message. It's the first thing you try when a device like this falls over and stops working so comprehensively. I have two 2nd gen that no longer work but fortunately one 1st gen which I can swap between TVs till you get your act together and sort this out

do not tell this, they will block your 1st gen also Lol
