Hi Martín_09,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that your Google Chromecast 3rd Gen Chromecast gets very hot and turns off. No worries, help is here.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  1. What is the make and model of the TV set?
  2. Is the streaming device currently on?
  3. What is displayed on the screen?
  4. Could you please describe the temperature of the Google streaming device when the device is in use?
  5. Is your Google Chromecast 3rd Gen powered from the USB port of the TV set? Or is it being powered from an outlet?

Thanks for your attention; I will be looking forward to your answer.

Best regards,

Virna

Gracias por responder, la pantalla es un televisor LG, el dispositivo está conectado a una toma de corriente con el cable original, al calentarse se apaga y no da ningún mensaje . La temperatura al tacto es bastante.

Hi Martín_09,

Thanks for your kind response. The information you provided me allows me to better understand what you are experiencing with your Google Chromecast (3rd Gen).

Based on the information you have provided, I would recommend the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Please make sure that you’re using a 5V 1A supply.  If a special cable or adapter is used to connect a streaming device  to the power outlet, make sure the voltage doesn't exceed 5V.
  2. Make sure the power outlet isn't prone to surges.
  3. Place the streaming device where there is proper ventilation to dissipate heat.
  4. Unplug your Google Chromecast device from the power source that is connected, actually.  Let the device cool down for 10 to 15 minutes, and try to plug it into another power source, and let me know if the Chromecast still gets hot.
  5. If the issue persists, plug it into a USB port of the TV set to power it.
  6. If you continue having the same inconvenience, please try your Google Chromecast (3rd Gen) with another TV set.
  7. After performing the previously recommended steps, please observe the color of the Google Chromecast (3rd Gen) LED light and let me know what its status is.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regard,

Virna
