Sonos Ray cannot be detected by Chromecast 4K

Hi I bought the new Chromecast 4K with Google TV but cannot make the remote work with my soundbar Sonos Ray. When I go to Remote & Accesories >> Add Device >> Soundbar, nothing happens even though the soundbar has been added to Google Home devices. What can I do here, is annoying not having control over volumen with the remote.

Hi edvelal,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We’re sorry for the trouble, and this is not the experience that we wanted you to have. I searched online for details about Sonos Ray and found this Sonos Ray Soundbar Review. Then I checked for user feedback and found this thread: is Sonos ray worth it on Reddit.

As per review and user feedback, it seems it doesn’t have its own remote and doesn’t have built-in IR (infrared) feeds for controls. It doesn’t have an HDMI port, which is what the CEC means for communication. Both of these (IR and HDMI-CEC) are the means for the Chromecast Voice Remote to control a device (TV, soundbar, and/or receiver). It’s like asking a nonswimmer, flightless creature to go to an island. The soundbar seems to be a great addition to a TV to not rely on its built-in speakers, but the participation of the Chromecast device would focus on its control on the TV as it won’t be able to control this soundbar.

I hope this sheds some light on the situation. Let us know if you have other questions.

Thanks,

Kimy
