Spotify not playing 'liked songs' on Google Chromecast Audio

Willbiddle

I am able to cast all my playlists from Spotify to Google Chromecast audio apart from an issue with 'liked songs'. I have over 11,000 songs here and the chromecast audio often won't  respond when I try and play them. If it does respond and start playing, when I skip a track, Spotify goes to 'play recommended songs' (based on the last track playing) rather than shuffling to another track in 'liked songs'. If streaming from Spotify to a Bluetooth receiver or from the phone to headphones it works fine. Therefore this is a Chromecast Audio issue. Any ideas?

Hi Willbiddle,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that your Google Chromecast Audio is not casting your ‘liked songs’ on your Spotify app. I understand how frustrating it must be that the Google Chromecast Audio often won’t respond when you try to play the ‘liked songs’ over 11,000 songs you have. Thank you for letting us know that you can play your ‘liked songs’ on Spotify through a Bluetooth receiver or from your phone to your headphones. Don't worry, I'm here to help.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • When did the issue start?
  • Is your mobile device updated to the latest version?
  • Are you using the latest versions of the Spotify app?
  • How far from the router is your Google Chromecast Audio?
  • Are you using an Android or an iPhone device to set up your Google Chromecast Audio?
  • Do you have a Spotify Premium account?
  • Are you having the same inconvenience with other apps?
  • What’s the firmware version of your Google Chromecast Audio? You can use this Google help center article as a reference: Find your device’s firmware version.
  • Is your Google Chromecast Audio connected to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network?
  • What steps have you taken so far to resolve this issue?

In the meantime, I recommend you reboot your Google Chromecast Audio following these instructions:

  1. Unplug the power cable from the Chromecast device.
  2. Leave it unplugged for one minute.
  3. Plug the power cable back in.

If the inconvenience persists, restart your smartphone and try if the inconvenience was resolved.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Virna

Dear Virna
Thank you for your reply to my post. In answer to your questions:
-The issue started after the recent issue with Google Chromecast Audio not working and needing a fix from Google via the updated Google Home app. (I experienced similar issues quite few years ago when 'liked songs' weren't being shuffled well, with bias being shown to certain tracks and artists being queued more often than others).
-I have the latest Google Home app (version 3.30.106).
-My iPad and iPhone are also updated.
-My Spotify app is the latest version.
-The Google Chromecast audio devices (I have three) are all close to the WiFi router, connect easily and are streaming from Spotify premium.
-I connected them using my iPhone and Google Home app.
-I have a Spotify premium account.
-All other apps are working fine.
-My phone is on the same network and the same account as the Google Chromecast audios.
-There have been no recent changes to the WiFi network.
-Google Chromecast audio firmware version 1.56.467166
-The WiFi is a 2.4GHz network.
-I have tried rebooting the Google Chromecast audio and phone. This hasn't resolved the issue.
As described, 'Liked songs' will play, but the queue is biased to certain artists. When I skip a track, it goes to 'playing recommended songs' which keeps the same queued songs but doesn't allow for further shuffling as the green shuffle icon is faded out and won't respond.
I can still play ‘liked songs’ normally without issue to a Bluetooth audio receiver connected to my amplifier or through headphones connected to my phone.
I look forward to hearing back from you in due course.
Kind regards,
Will Biddle

Hi Virna,

Since my reply to your first message, the issue has resolved itself. I just tested it again this morning and 'liked songs' are shuffling properly now. I don't know if you reported the issue to your engineers who fixed it?
