Tv won't turn off with voice command only chromecast turns off

Hi Guys

 

Not sure if I choose the right category, if not let me know and I will change it. 

 

Allright so the situation is as followed. I have a home mini speaker in my bedroom, also have a chromecast with Google TV (HD) connected to the TV in my bedroom. When I use the chromecast remote I can turn the TV on and off with no problem.

 

When I use the voice command turn the TV on, or use the on button on the remote in the Google home app from the chromecast all works fine.

 

But when I use the voice  command turn the tv off or use the off button on the remote in the Google home app all that happens is that the chromecast is turned off. I then get the LG Screensaver logo since nothing else is turned on, on the tv. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, in my son's room everything works but the  chromecast and nest are different versions.

 

Anyone any idea what may cause this? TV and chromecast both have CEC enabled, but still turning off with voice command or through the app doesn't work...

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. Based on your description, the Chromecast device with its remote and the TV seem to be working hand in hand on their own. The challenge seems to appear as soon as another device gets involved, like the Google Home Mini or the phone with the Google Home app.

 

Give the steps below a try and let me know how it goes:

 

  • Ensure that all of your device’s firmware is up-to-date.
  • Plug your Chromecast into a different HDMI port on your TV.
  • Perform a sequential reboot (Chromecast device, TV, router, Google Home Mini, phone).
  • If it fails, factory reset everything and re-setup from scratch.

For now the only thing that is left to try is the factory reset of the google home mini, otherwise i dont know anymore

I have reset the tv, home mini and the chromecast but still the same problem. The tv/chromecast turns on with voice command but with the off command only the chromecast turns off, and not the tv

Hi Chicksel,

 

Thanks for trying all the steps. It seems that all your devices are working as intended. If you remember the first time you set up your Chromecast with Google TV (HD), you were prompted to set up the remote buttons (power, volume, input) by choosing TV, soundbar, or AVR/receiver. It asked you which brand and model. That is, to pair those devices with the remote (using infrared, CEC, etc.). With that being said, actions done outside the remote (which is paired with the TV, soundbar, etc.) can’t control devices that are paired only with the remote.

In my son's bedroom I have the same setup and there I can control the TV with voice command on and off and that works. The only difference is that is the Grey chromecast so not with Google TV, but otherwise the same and there it works
