VOICE CASTING FROM NEST HUB TO CHROME CAST

KB1989
Community Member

I have a Google nest display hub and chrome cast in one room.

I used to be able to say to my Google nest display:

“hey Google play Benidorm on Netflix on Kitchen TV”

and it’d start playing on my Kitchen TV/Chrome cast but it no longer works?

I've linked netflix to the home app but if i say 'play (a show) on netflix on (location) (device name) it keeps saying 'i also need which device to use, try saying that again including the devices name'

Help please, it's driving me mad haha tried for hours :’(

both chromecast and nest hub are in google home app under one home same WiFi network and same room in the house both sowing on same Google account and in google home app DRIVING ME CRAZY! Tried everything reinstalled done factory reset

Hi KB1989,

Thanks for posting in the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Hub doesn't recognize the command to cast through the Chromecast. I'd be happy to help!

To better assist you, I’d like to ask the following:

  • What is the model and generation of your Nest Hub?
  • What is the model and generation of your Chromecast device?
  • What is the manufacturer of your TV?

For now, I’d suggest the following steps:

  • Make sure you have the latest version of the Google Home app and the mobile software version.
  • Try using different voice commands to see if any work. For example, you could try saying, "Hey Google, play Benidorm on Netflix on my Kitchen TV Chromecast."
  • Plug the Chromecast device into a wall outlet or another power source, so the Chromecast remains on when the TV is turned off. If the Chromecast device is in a USB port on the TV, it turns off along with the TV and can’t respond to the voice commands.
  • Check if your TVs are linked to your speaker or display. If your TV is already linked, try relinking the TV to the Nest Hub. For instructions, you can check out this article: Play TV shows and movies with your speaker or display.

For reference, you can learn more through this helpful article: Turn your TV on and off using speakers or displays.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
