Youtube videos freezing on Chromecast with Google TV

Videos on Youtube sometimes freeze up while using Chromecast with Google TV (4K). This is a recent problem. Tried restarting Chromecast and clearing the cache on the Youtube app. Also tried deleting Youtube and reinstalling. All firmware is up to date on Chromecast and Youtube. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Paulh9788,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. Since you’ve already tried to troubleshoot the app, yet it persists, it’s possible that it could be network-related. Try to disconnect your Chromecast from your Wi-Fi and connect it to your smartphone’s mobile hotspot. Observe if the issue persists.

We look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Kimy

Thanks for the quick response! Tried personal hotspot and the YouTube app seems to work better; however, all the other apps are slowed down greatly and sometimes they freeze. Also, I have 2 Tablo TV media devices that are no longer recognized, even though they are connected via ethernet. Switching back to the router for Wi Fi on Chromecast resolves everything, except for the original problems with YouTube freezing.

Hello Paulh9788,

Thanks for the reply. That proved that the issue is related to the network. It could be network settings or server-related issues. YouTube doesn’t really consume as much bandwidth as the other apps you mentioned. That's why YouTube worked, but heavier apps struggled when using your mobile hotspot. Your Wi-Fi is more capable of providing consistent internet access and stability. Try working on the network settings. Start with the DNS; if you’re using your ISP’s DNS, then change it to Google (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4) or vice versa. Try to minimize the complex configuration that may limit access to Google’s domain. Some users usually fix this by factory resetting their router, but we don’t suggest it, especially if the user doesn't know how. For this, you may actually contact your router manufacturer or your ISP if they provided you with your router.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Kimy

Kimy, this sounds very complicated. It would be easier to just use my Roku Ultra or Apple TV devices, since they have no issues playing Youtube content. The Chromecast device worked well with Youtube for years until just recently, like in the last month. I should not have to mess with my router settings to make it work with chromecast. Thank you for your help!

Hi Paulh9788,

We hear you. You can always reach out to your router manufacturer (or ISP), as they may have ways to check it remotely for discrepancies. Feel free to create a new thread if you have questions or concerns in the future.

Sincerely,

Kimy
