i Edward,It is inside. The cord plugs into a metal pin inside the router to make a connection. A picture would not show that it wobbles.I bought the system from Costco so I can return it without issue. I am just on the fence as to buy another 3 nests...

I have not purchased a new router and just keep shaking the cord when this one doesn't work.I am not sure what brand/type works with Google (besides for Nest). I currently have a cable modem only by NetGear and router is the faulty Nest.
