Thermostat failure, my 2year 4month old 3rd Gen. Thermostat suddenly went blank.

I carried out all the recommended procedures, no change. I then connected the stat. to a USB power source and within a few seconds it said "reconnect me to the base". I did so and it is now running, but for how long?Does this mean I need a new batter...
