I solved it by binning my nest network and by a new router and mesh
system. Works perfectly now with exactly the same placements on the
points etc. Went from 10mbs to 700mbs

download speed when standing next to thehardwired router (500mb+) but
utterly rubbish when connected to a mesh point or even 20 steps away
