Do you use the Google Home app on your Android phone to access a Nest Cam (wired)? If so, do you have access to any type of external audio device, such as bluetooth speakers or wired headphones?

If you view your camera while connected to the external audio device, does the camera audio play via your phones speaker or does the audio come out of the external audio device?

I cannot get camera audio to play through my headphones when I have them plugged into my phone and I don't understand why.

Hi @iAmNotSure

It's understandable that you're frustrated by the lack of camera audio when you plug in headphones. Unfortunately, the Google Home app itself doesn't have a built-in feature to route audio playback, including Nest Cam audio, to external Bluetooth speakers or wired headphones. It automatically uses the phone's default audio output setting.

Let's see if these solutions can help:

  • Check your phone's sound settings. Some phones have options to select the default audio output for different apps. You might be able to choose headphones as the default output for all apps, which could potentially include the Google Home app's Nest Cam audio.
  • There might be third-party apps that can force audio routing for specific apps. Explore the app store with caution and make sure you download apps from reputable sources.

We hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

All the best,

Unfortunately I could find no such setting and no such app.

I don't understand why the Google Home app can't route audio playback when literally everything else on my phone can.
