Battery camera not picking up animals

kevclay
Community Member

I had 10 deer walk by my battery camera and it didn’t turn on.  Same with cats & foxes.  Camera is 7’ off the ground.  All checkboxes are selected.  My wired camera picked all of them up, which is how I know.

@kevclay

When running on battery power, Google Nest's battery cameras and battery doorbells are in "Idle" mode, and they don't seem to do a good job of waking up to detect and record events. We've had a battery camera for 18 months, plugged in with the optional power cable. It detects events as well as our older wired cameras, but if we unplug it and then walk in front of the camera to test it, it does not detect anything.

Hello everyone,

@kevclay, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. Nest Cameras determine when something moves based on how much an image changes over a short period of time.

So, your Nest Camera may not send an alert if the following is true:

  • The activity is out of your Nest Camera’s field of view.
  • An object is blocking your Nest Camera’s view.
  • Your Nest Camera is very far away from the activity.
  • The lighting in the scene is dim or washed out.

Troubleshoot:

You might have to move your Nest Camera, change your Nest Camera’s angle, or change something in the scene so that you don’t miss important activity.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Best,
