Battery draining - why no 1.5 24v transformers?

I’ll be honest, I’m very disappointed with the best battery doorbell camera so far. Installed one for a customer last week with an 18v 500ma supply and the doorbell was dead within a day. They’re in a busy location with a lot of foot traffic.

am I wasting my time trying a 24v 500ma supply? Based on the specs of the camera you could in theory go up to 24v 1500ma but I’m unable to find a suitable transformer.

Any advise? The wired doorbell cam STILL isn’t available in the UK.

Hi Kazkaz1,

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear the inconvenience and frustration you're experiencing with the battery life of the Nest Doorbell. Here are a few suggestions that might help:

  1. It's important to use a power supply that is compatible with the Nest Doorbell's specifications. The recommended power range for the camera is 16V to 24V AC with a minimum of 10VA (volt-ampere) power rating. Using a power supply outside of these specifications may result in insufficient power delivery or potential damage to the camera.
  2. Ensure that the wiring and connections between the power supply and the doorbell camera are properly installed and secure. Loose or faulty connections can cause power issues and may result in the camera not receiving adequate power.
  3. While the Nest Doorbell can technically handle up to 24V and 1500mA, it's important to note that a higher voltage or current doesn't necessarily improve battery life. The camera's internal charging circuit is designed to handle the specified voltage and current range. Using a higher voltage or current power supply beyond the recommended range can potentially damage the camera or its charging circuit.
  4. Check the settings within the Nest app to ensure that battery optimization features are enabled. These features can help extend battery life by managing power usage when the camera is not actively recording or in use.

Regarding the availability of the wired doorbell cam in the UK, we don't have anything else to share right now, but stay tuned for more news and updates.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
