Deteriorated Doorbell

My nest hello is less than 2 years old and is getting brittle/chipped.  It will no longer connect to the nest app.  It's was installed as instructed and has had very low physical use.  Is this common?

The peeling on the face of the Google Nest Hello Doorbell is common; there are over 300 posts in this forum about "peeling" Nest Hellos. Google Nest says they "cannot" replace them if the warranty has expired. One of ours is peeling; we bought a silicone "skin" on Amazon to cover up the peeling. Also common is a failure of the internal battery, causing the doorbell to go offline briefly when it is pressed; the workaround is to turn off the indoor chime and rely on "visitor announcements" to Nest Hubs and Nest Minis. This has happened to both of ours, so we're using the workaround.

Other failures seem decidedly less common. You could try contacting Google Nest Support to see if they'll replace yours:
